Currently Golf but not as we know it
The course has benefited from not being in use but the big downside is the ongoing weather. Sadly there are no watering facilities on the course so the fairways are rock hard making it a lottery of whether you get a favourable bounce or not, not too bad if it's a flatish links course but not good when it's hilly. The greens are like concrete and almost impossible to hold a shot .Scenery lovely as always, just needs the fire taking out of the course but great to be out again and folk friendly. Will be a good challenge if 'normal' weather resumes - well worth a visit

Municipal course of good quality
For a municipal course Heaton is in great condition. I played late on my own, there was hardly anyone playing and a lot of dog walkers etc but it was fine. Greens in good condition and fairways also good. Obvious signs that it is on public ground (beer cans in bunkers, dog walkers etc) but overall, for the small green fee it was worthwhile.(Round played: Aug 2019 - Score: 83 Handicap: 15.7)

Tiring and tough but good
Good condition after the poor weather. Usual problem for this fine challenging course is that it gets well used after bad weather due to the fine drainage and unfortunately a number of users do not replace divots etc. Sadly some of the worst offenders often include some club members from elsewhere who tend to use this course when their own are suffering from the weather but don't show a course respect. despite this occasional problem it is a good challenging course which will provide a variety of lies to test players but the often steep slopes make it a demanding physical test - not one for some of the golfers used to flat courses.Reviewer Rating

Strenuous and Challenging course
For a municipal course this is in very good condition. In somewhat of a transition following the failure of Mack golf last year but currently under new management that appear to be doing a good job. A few holes are out of sight from the tee and quite hilly in some areas so quite challenging.Reviewer Rating
