What the club says: Established in 1912, Heaton Park Golf Course is located within the scenic grounds of Heaton Park, Manchester. The 18 hole par 70 course, voted the best municipal course in Great Britain in 2005 was designed by 5 times Open Champion, John Henry Taylor and is 5,755 yards in length. This parkland course offers spectacular views across to the Pennines and surrounding countryside. The signature 11th hole is played across water and former Open Champion, Henry Cotton once described the long par-3 hole as “the toughest par-3 in England”. Open daily, we welcome all standards of golfers, from juniors and novices to the more senior and advanced golfer, we can also cater for golf societies.

The Clubhouse is open daily from 8am and we welcome golfers and non-golfers to enjoy the food and beverage on offer. We have all Sky Sports and BT Sports channels and there is a function room available to hire for private parties and funerals.

Currently Golf but not as we know it

The course has benefited from not being in use but the big downside is the ongoing weather. Sadly there are no watering facilities on the course so the fairways are rock hard making it a lottery of whether you get a favourable bounce or not, not too bad if it's a flatish links course but not good when it's hilly. The greens are like concrete and almost impossible to hold a shot .
Scenery lovely as always, just needs the fire taking out of the course but great to be out again and folk friendly. Will be a good challenge if 'normal' weather resumes - well worth a visit

Municipal course of good quality

For a municipal course Heaton is in great condition. I played late on my own, there was hardly anyone playing and a lot of dog walkers etc but it was fine. Greens in good condition and fairways also good. Obvious signs that it is on public ground (beer cans in bunkers, dog walkers etc) but overall, for the small green fee it was worthwhile.

Played early (8am) Tuesday, saw no one else on the course until we reached the 14th. Greens are excellent, faster than my home course. Fairways are well maintained. A challenging course with many unsighted greens and hills to climb.

Tiring and tough but good

Good condition after the poor weather. Usual problem for this fine challenging course is that it gets well used after bad weather due to the fine drainage and unfortunately a number of users do not replace divots etc. Sadly some of the worst offenders often include some club members from elsewhere who tend to use this course when their own are suffering from the weather but don't show a course respect. despite this occasional problem it is a good challenging course which will provide a variety of lies to test players but the often steep slopes make it a demanding physical test - not one for some of the golfers used to flat courses.

Strenuous and Challenging course

For a municipal course this is in very good condition. In somewhat of a transition following the failure of Mack golf last year but currently under new management that appear to be doing a good job. A few holes are out of sight from the tee and quite hilly in some areas so quite challenging.

Hidden gem of a course

Very well hidden but well worth playing, the course was in good condition and is well laid out, some very challenging holes, and as a 2 ball got round in just over 4 hours, very hilly so would recommend you use an electric trolly or a buggy, love and will be playing again soon.

Excellent course layout with interesting holes.Extremley hilly and certainly not for someone with a heart condition.Only negative was fairway and green condition which were a little poor, but given the recent weather conditions was understandable.Well worth a visit and would definitely play again.

Well drained and friendly

Course in reasonable shape with recent weather, not helped by 'golfers' (??) not acting responsibly and replacing divots etc.
Major problem was that there were no refreshments available afterwards despite it being mid afternoon. Refreshment facility not re opening ?
No practice facilities. Driving range built cannot be used as it is too close to the main road (dhhhhhh!) and the land not even used for putting/short game .

The views

Probably the best municipal I've ever played .. really tough course. Most holes are blind going into them . The par 3 11th is up there with the best .. can't wait to play again in the summer ... maybe with a buggy
