What The Club Says

Established in 1912, Heaton Park Golf Course is located within the scenic grounds of Heaton Park, Manchester. The 18 hole par 70 course, voted the best municipal course in Great Britain in 2005 was designed by 5 times Open Champion, John Henry Taylor and is 5,755 yards in length. This parkland course offers spectacular views across to the Pennines and surrounding countryside. The signature 11th hole is played across water and former Open Champion, Henry Cotton once described the long par-3 hole as “the toughest par-3 in England”. Open daily, we welcome all standards of golfers, from juniors and novices to the more senior and advanced golfer, we can also cater for golf societies.

The Clubhouse is open daily from 8am and we welcome golfers and non-golfers to enjoy the food and beverage on offer. We have all Sky Sports and BT Sports channels and there is a function room available to hire for private parties and funerals.

Weather affected

Course tidier and better looked after than my last visit but severely affected by the ongoing lack of rain. Fairways lightning fast and bouncy. One of the main positives of the course is it's challenging nature - hilly terrain and variety of sloping lies etc make it a good enjoyable test. These enable the course to give a good game despite rainy wet weather that makes most courses suffer or shutdown. Sadly these very features currently make it a struggle in this ongoing dry weather. Fairways cracked in places, unpredictable bounces and rolls can result in lost balls and greater time searching. Nevertheless the course is well looked after and provides a good challenge both to golfers and the hard working staff - just needs a bit of rain to tame the course and help golfers and the staff. Worth the money, don't forget your water.. There is also a Pitch + Putt course, also hilly.

Rain needed

As expected course extremely dry, almost like concrete. Greens just about green but very firm, generally forget about going for most greens and expecting it to hold, try links style approaches. Some fairways problematical as ball could bound on another 20 yds or just as likely kick off and roll similar to the left or right - adds time looking for the ball though local knowledge can help on some holes. Sadly plenty of cut grass clumps in the dip before the 7th, no way of knowing unless you've stopped on top of the hill - unlikely to find ball. Hope that this is cleared soon.

Greens were not watered nd hard. Could not stop the ball at all. Too hilly. No clear signage for next tee. Ground too hard to put tees in. Too many blind shots. Never again. Played a four ball and we all agreed.

Mr williams

Course in good condition they have trimmed lots of rough down 15th hole still not playing as it should be they been waiting to repair a footpath from tee to fairway so hole has been considerably reduced in yardage such a good hole wich means you have to play the 14th as the 18th which is a good distance from the original 18th green hopefully gets resolved soon other than that great course

In my opinion the best municipal in the north west and potentially the country, well done for pulling this course back from the brink of 2no closures and COVID restrictions, please note it's a tough walk with many hills and blind shots, only minor issue is the collapsed bridge which has resulted in revised layout, manchester MBC please resolve soon.
