Links course inland.

Lovely course which plays like an inland links course. Real nature covers the 18 holes with Deers roaming and Crows trying to steal your ball and in fact I had won picked up by a crow while the ball was on the green. Great condition in the winter.

Hadn't been here for some time. New clubhouse with nice facilities and good food. Course was in good conditions and greens were comparatively soft so would take a decent iron into them. Usual rough off the fairways which makes it tricky if you go offline. Well worth a visit.

Pretty good nick

Nice course be straight or you will struggle ie the rough is brutal, club house is nice staff friendly if I had a gripe it would be if your a big society or group toilet space is limited, and no pro shop, lovely surroundings-bunkers need soughting,we where told there going to address them during the winter.

Little gem

Very nice course and facilities. Had not been thee for a while but you can see that money has been spent and the course is a little gem. Firm hard greens and punishing rough.
Nice bar and food with friendly staff and club members.

Underwhelmed

The idea of playing in royal grounds is an exciting prospect, but that really was about it. Clubhouse was closed so check in was done at a mobile cafe. Course was very flat, with not an awful lot of challenging holes. Nice to see the deer wandering round and a good view of the palace from the 5th green, but I’m afraid that’s about all I will remember.

Avoid

The course is not in good condition. It’s been badly neglected during the lockdown and some of the greens have huge holes that have been dug by animals. The green keepers have just thrown sand in these and left them.

This was once a real members club that welcomed visitors. The existing members are now leaving in numbers and it’s becoming an overpriced pay and play that is trying to cram every tee time full to make as much money as possible. The new owners claim they are investing in the course and they have started putting in irrigation for example. But leaving the course to fall apart during lockdown doesn’t seem to support this new ethos.

Maybe they will get the course back in shape. But that looks a long way away and right now, I would not pay to play this course.

Refresh day

Fresh breeze course was in very good condition despite all the rain over the last few days
Greens were not running true due to the the sand and the hollowing carried out this week

One to watch! Course has recently been purchased by a new charitable organisation who are investing heavily in the maintenance and upkeep of the course after years of neglect, definitely one that’s only going to get better in the future

Good but could perhaps be so much better

Some interesting holes, good quality grass driving range, nice clubhouse and lots of wildlife with herds of deer roaming freely. I've played here a few times now, always in the summer and a number of the fairways get baked out, so you can get some crappy lies. I often think it feels a bit linksy and despite the fairways I've always enjoyed playing here. Some holes have more grass and better fairways, and from what I gather it drys out pretty quickly in winter. Now that Crown Golf have sold it to a charitable organisation (who's aim is to get more people playing golf) it will be interesting to see what investment goes into the course, especially as the prices have been slashed. I'm not complaining about ?14 for a twilight round midweek, which is excellent value here but is it sustainable? Time will tell no doubt. I noticed too that they're now offering under 18 membership for free, and unlimited golf too - that's awesome for juniors.

Open but challenging

I played this course for the first time on the 23rd June with three others. As COVID restrictions were in place no facilities were open. The course was in good condition with very true and flat greens. Although the course looked very open I found myself in trouble a couple of times off the tee, accuracy with the driver is needed. When I strayed off the tee I was still able to find the ball in most cases but the rough was tough to play out of. Good challenge and would like to play again.
