On the short side but interesting

Lots of GUR around the greens, but we were forewarned on the first tee. Some interesting holes, with severe doglegs.
Heavy penalisation for being in the second cut, a few lost balls which were seen down but disappeared.

Greens not in great condition, they were flat, but lots of dead grass patches, caused trouble if on the putting line.

Overall I'd play it again for the variety., but there are other courses in the area that are cheaper in the twilight slot that we played in, and is better condition.

Average pay&play course with expensive food

All comments and scores relate to the Lakes 18 hole.
Like most affordable courses, is not too busy during the week and is too busy at weekends. Has clearly lacked investment over the last 10 years or so, and has little resources to do anything about that going forward. Some small changes are being made in a slow and piecemeal way; new honours boards, redecorating the main bar.
However, over the last 2 years the greens have improved. Has a range for practice and warm up. Changing rooms are old-fashioned, bland and dimly lit, with no lockers. I have a suspicion that the showers do not work.
This golfshake entry is mis-named because the "Club" is the playing Members (Men's, Lady's, Junior's) who do not own it and have neither any power nor any say in what happens to the site; the site's correct name is "Chelsfield Lakes Golf Centre".
The course is average in demands and challenge. It's not too difficult, so one doesn't feel dejected on every hole (unlike some courses that feel they have to be as hard and long as championship courses). Accuracy and finesse can result in reasonable scores
Notwithstanding all the above, by far the biggest problem is that there are regular and significant numbers of trespassers on the course, off of the one public footpath, which the Centre refuses to deal with either directly or by signage. So beware when you play.

Nice course with some challenging holes but slow play is the curse of this course at weekends. Suggest you try and play in the week of you can

Played here for many years now and today was the worst I have seen the course. Bunkers like whitstable beach, greens patchy and bobbley. Fairways patchy too. Tees long and broken tees everywhere. Such a lovely course in the past. In need of tlc and some work. Was waiting for a 6 ball with two buggys today. Seem to be letting anyone on the course. Great value for money at £15. Wouldn't pay any more than that after 1pm. On a positive note I found a ProV1 in the rough. Please make this course in better nick, shot 75 here last year! Today 88 off 13. 33points

If your looking for a golf course which isn't particularly challenging and an easy stroll this is perfect for you! The majority of the holes are pretty uninspiring and easy to scramble around even if your not driving well due to the short yardage. Previously I've played here midweek and it's been quite enjoyable. My most recent visit was on a Saturday morning which in hindsight was a big mistake. Public courses like chelsfield lakes gets saturated at the weekend with people who don't observe any kind of etiquette and slow play massively which is terribly frustrating!!
