I was a member at Canons Brook until 2006 and still pay there occassionally as my dad is still a member.
In my opinion, the course is one of the best in Essex. It has undergone some significant changes over the last few years; most noticably the 14th (with a changed tee position, large slope to the right of the fairway with out of bounds and the addition of a large water hazard in front of the green which makes the second shot very daunting!) and the 10th, which has been shortened slightly and a brand new green built. I was worried about the changes to the 10th in particular, but the hole has actually improved with the changes.
Although quite a long course, you have to think your way around and can't just bomb shots off the tee - any wayward drive / approach will be punished, which means that there is never a dull moment during your round!
All of the holes present a different challenge, but the last four in particular have got to be up there with the best closing holes around.
The club also has a thriving junior section, with a lot of emphasis on bringing young golfers through the ranks, which will hopefully ensure the future of the club.
The membership is quite expensive at over £1,000 for 7 day, but if you can afford it then there is no other course nearby that I would recommend more.
I was absolutely gutted when I had to give up my membership, but play there whenever I get the chance.
If you enjoy golf, you simply have to play here.

great course , with some tough par 3s

a very nice course , in a built up town , but you wouldnt know it , some great and testing holes , the greens had just been treated , so wet and sandy , but you could tell under normal conditions they would be well kept and fast , will be visiting again soon

Went for nice warm up for the weekend festivities on our society break in Lincolnshire. The course was excellent and poor shots were penalised accordingly which with todays perfomance meant i was penalised often. The course surprisingly was nearly empty but that isnt a reflection on the course.A brilliant weekend is on the way but Canons brook has shattered any confidence i had.Well worth a visit and i will return as it was extremely enjoyable but i now in the need of more golf balls..

Great course, you will have to play well to hit your handicap here, most fairways are quite narrow with out of bounds on most holes down the right or left off the tee, the greens are quite quick as-well as being sloped or two tiered, the bunkers always seem to be where you want to hit your ball, this is a course for the thinking golfer rather than the wham bang thank you man golfer, it was a pleasure playing this course and they take 2 fore 1 vouchers during the week, what a bargain, the club house looked fabulous as-well.

What a fantastic golf coarse .We play many coarses in Essex and Kent and i have to say this is up there with the best and if you use the 2 for 1 vouchers it is fantastic value. We played on a thursday morning and only paid £16.00 each what a bargain!!!!!!!!.
The coarse is in fantastic condition but BEWARE most of the holes are tree lined with out of bounds on both sides of most of the very narrow fairways, you will need to be straight if you are to score well on this coarse.I did not play well but two of our group hit there handicaps .I dont like the idea of not being able to book tee times as this can lead to long queues but we went off straight away and hardly see anybody all day.

Haven't commented on a course before but felt compelled to do so with this one. What a great course!
Some of the best greens I've ever played on, even the temporary green being used on one hole whilst they make alterations to the one was perfec!
The whole course was immaculately maintained....definitely play here again soon. Only slight concern is that you can't book tee-times, we played on a Friday, great if you fancy an off the cuff game, but I suppose there is potential for queues forming on a weekend. That said when we arrived the carpark was almost full and we hardly saw anyone else on the course. I've played virtually all the courses within a 15 mile radius, this is definitely up with the best of them. Didn't use the club facililites but the golf shop looked fairly well stocked.

Golfshake Team ReviewWell......what a little Gem.
I am very familiar with the area and have played quite a few local courses.

The first time I visited Canons Brook and I have to say I was very impressed.
The course was in very good condition, seems like it is well maintained by the staff...as well as other golfers.
A very nice mixture of holes with bunkers in good condition and in all the right/wrong places, whichever way you look at it.

I took advantage of the twilight rate after 4pm and for the £17 it was worth every penny.

I will have no issues in returning as soon as I can and will highly recommend.

Enjoyable Course

Great day's golf. Course in very good condition, especially the greens. Some work being done on some fairways and bunkers but nothing excessive to disrupt your round.
Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend for individuals and Societies
Obviously COVID restrictions still in place

Throughly enjoyable round of golf on a beautiful day with the course looking and playing great. Bunkers were a bit hard due to some heavy rain but the greens were excellent, will definitely be going back soon.
