Dry and windy but course fairways recently cut and greens very fast but receptive.

Nice course, green good, and relatively quite for a Sunday morning. Bit windy on the day which made the course more of a challenge, some fairways were hard to identify as they blend in to the rough. Overall ok.

Very pleasant setting for a society event given the warm welcome, reasonable prices and good food on offer.

The course itself is a bit of a mixed bag. It's laid out along a relatively flat valley surrounded by the foot hills of the Pennines near Halifax but it isn't a flat course. Some holes are pleasant enough but too many are situated far too close to other holes for comfort, so that you will often find yourself with two different groups vying for space on the same fairway, owing to slightly mishit drives.

There are 3 par 3s on the opening 9 plus a par 3 finish on hole 18. These holes make good use of the undulating terrain to provide a very good test of golf - including as they do, bunkers, elevated greens and deep ravines before some greens for golf ball to fly into. Probably too many par 4s appear to have little discernible fairway available fron the tee and quite often have difficult cambers that unfairly punish a tee-shot hit straight.

A great course with some challenging holes to suit every level.
Stay out of the rough as this can be thick and deep in places.
The greens vary in speed and all need to be studied as they all hve a personality of their own.

I would not pay £40 to play this dreadful course. It was not until to you get to the tenth hole that you could make out the fairways. Hole eight was the worst hole I have ever played, Municipals are better.

Golfshake Team ReviewTraditional members club set with the valleys of Yorkshire close to Halifax. The first 10 or so holes are set on the side of a hill so makes for some interesting fairways and lies but provides a course of interest. It's not the hilliest course and once you get to the 11th it becomes a lot flatter. There is also a lot of hole crossing so you need to be aware of who's playing where at all times.

When I played the greens will still being prepped for the season but fairly slick and looked like they would be fantastic once the Spring/Summer comes. 2 greens to watch out for are the 2 tier 'mckenzie' par 3 2nd and 18th, make sure you get the right tier! Fairways also needed a bit of work from lots of divots that either hadn't been repaired or had been removed by birds or the wind.

Golfshake Team ReviewThe conditions didn't help when we played here, drizzle turning to torrential rain towards the end and very strong winds made it a very tough course. Having said that the course was in really good condition, the greens were superb and apart from a bit of waterlogging on the last couple of holes stood up really well. And despite the rain they were fast and very true. The layout itself was good, lots of tricky hanging lies and risk and reward holes, I particularly liked the 13th where a long drive leaves a lovely 150 yard shot over a gully. Very difficult par 3 to finish as well.

Clubhouse was a lovely old place, with friendly staff. Only downside was maybe lack of practice facilities.

Definitely worth a visit in better weather

You get everything on here. Parkland and moorland. Flat and hilly.
The greens must be the fastest in Yorkshire with some very tricky two tiered dancefloors on a few of the holes.
Be wary of the par 3 18th. A small ravine to the right catches the poorly struck shot far too easily.
Friendly members are willing to allow you to join them for a round if playing alone.
Tends to suffer with poor drainage at times, especially during prolonged spells of wet weather. Still doesn't slow the greens down though!!!

Pleasant course in fairly open parkland with excellent fast greens. you need to be below the hole when putting otherwise three putts are common place.

Course very good with excellent greens. Clubhouse very poor - no food available during the week. Proshop doesn't seem to be open too often.
