One to visit

Beautifully presented course throughout.
The staff are very caring and make you feel very welcome.

The Practice areas are also worth a visit, even the 9 hole academy course is too worth a visit.

What a layout....

Second time I've played here and yet again I was in awe of
how good a test of golf this is and how great the holes are. As you?d
expect from a Severiano Ballesteros design you are thinking from tee until
the ball drops on each hole. 6 each of par 3s 4s and 5s also makes this a unique experience. What is evident is the design of the holes has a let
of the great mans favourite holes and courses....
A truly wonderful experience that was only tarnished slightly by the greens maintenance taking place even tho the greens still ran true and fast...the main disappointment was having to play the signature ?S? 18th hole to a temporary green that 30 mins later was back on the main green....
Still a great experience and one is like to partake in again.

Hard golf

This course is an exceptional course extremely hard and water at every turn, you may need to bring a few extra balls, all in all though a score in the 80s round here is good golf.

nice course hidden gem, some tricky water. Little short of the yellows. I would recommend this for intermediate golfers.

Good but Penal

I play Castle Point as it is close to my house and reasonably easy to get on. If it is busy they are happy for you to go off the 10th as long as your don't interfere with those coming round.

The course is generally in good condition and has improved greatly over the last few years however I do feel that the rough is too penal especially for the standard of person playing the course. You do not have to stray too far off line and it is very difficult/almost impossible to find your ball

The course is very much affected by the wind, especially the back 9 where you have 4 out, 1 across and 4 in. Dependent on which way the wind is blowing and how strong makes it a very different course

interesting layout...

With 6 par,3's, 6 par 4's and 6 par 5's and water in play on most holes, it is not an easy course to play .... but despite the challenge its a great place to play. Course in excellent condition , friendly staff and good facilities

the shire in heaven

The course was in excellent shape and a colleague of mine from Spain said it was up there with the best he had played.

Haven't seen anything like it in the UK

Lovely challenging course - very much requires a strategic approach to many of the holes. It had the feeling of a Spanish course at times, understandable given the background - but with lots (and lots) of water. Very enjoyable round.

Played at the shire on the 18/10/18 on arrival the welcome was very friendly the four of us ordered the shire full English breakfast it arrived quickly and was cooked to perfection and a pretty good price
Out on the course we found it very interesting to play certainly not a course where you can just blast off the tee with the driver. The greens were having work carried out on them so difficult to comment on how they normally play but I wouldn’t mind questing that they get very fast overall every thing at the shire was presented very nicely all the staff were friendly and efficient I can’t comment on value for money as I fortunately didn’t pay
We all agreed that we would re visit next spring

An absolute must llay

What a golf course. Booked for my dad’s birthday and always wanted to play it. Made the journey and was absolutely worth it. Hospitality was excellent, the pro’s were helpful and even gave us a discounted rate which was brilliant. Food was good too. Golf course was fantastic: layout, condition, everything. Challenging but fair, fairways absolutely immaculate considering the weather this year has destroyed most golf courses. Greens slopey but fair. Every hole has a challenge and designed perfectly by the GOAT. Love the fact the clubhouse has pictures and memorabilia everywhere. Really is a special place. An absolute must play.
