Challenging Courses

Two lovely courses, The Mathern & The Old Course, both offering excellent golfing for golfers of all levels. There had been a good deal of rain the day or two before our trip, but The Mathern was absolutely sodden and waterlogged in parts. I was surprised it was actually open. Some very interesting holes, with blind dog legs, water hazards and long Par 5s. The course Marshall was a tad officious, and accused my two ball of not replacing divots on the fairway, which was absolutely not true. Overall, a very good experience, enjoyed The Old Course far more than The Mathern, but I suspect that would play exceptionally well if the weather conditions had been drier. Would definitely recommend, just replace your divots (or at least pretend to replace them, even when you didn't take one!)....

Lovely but Long.

Deffo a course where on most holes you can just take out your driver and let loose. If not a long hitter then almost certainly quite a few holes you are still looking at a 3 wood for your 2nd shot. Some lovely holes though and if you get the chance give it a pop. You will not be disappointed.

Great Course - Mathern Course just needs some TLC

Went weekend of 18th and 19th May. Old Course far superior to Mathern but gets busy. All the Mathern needs is a little TLC and it will be a cracking course. Played Mathern Saturday (was empty and raced round in 3hrs 30)...Old Course on Sunday which was also fairly empty due to inclement weather.

Haga Ryder cup singles

Course is a good challenge for all standards of golfer. The greens were true but not fast. Down side are the 8th and 9th as they are adjacent to the mail access road and the traffic doesn't seem to respect the golfers.

Historic Course, St Pierre......

Firstly, the weather was 'sweltering'. Senior Open at this once European Tour course, still in superb condition with some fabulous holes and great views. Excellent senior crowd including locals, made to feel welcome at reception, teeing off and 19th hole. The course was in good condition, if a little dry (bounce and run on fairways excessive and difficult to control). Greens where well watered soft and true, putting was a pleasure. Great overall experience, having made sure I carried lots of replacement fluids!.

Golf Resort

Played at St Pierre three times during a golf break. The Old course is the better of the two courses and consists of 18 interesting and challenging holes. The greens were in excellent condition in spite of frequent rain. Friendly starters and Pro Shop staff.

I did find the pace of play variable - managing just 8 holes in 2 1/2 hours in the first round, giving up as we needed to check in and meet our evening dinner reservation! For this round, the pace was good until we caught up with three fourballs which lead to inevitable waiting.

The 18th was a stand out hole for me, 236 yards par 3 over water, fortunately with a strong helping wind.
