Terrible condition

Old course is better than the other, but both in terrible condition, very wet, greens and fairways are battered. Fairways are as long as rough on any normal course. Not sure how they have got into this condition as seems so significant much more than just heavy play. Clearly money being saved in upkeep. Less regular cutting. We had fond memories of this course from 7 years ago and it just isn’t the same. Bar is ridiculously expensive. Halfway house was £7 for a 330ml peroni. Cheap deals but they make the money back.

Mathern course was the worst I?ve ever played.

24 of us for a one night stay and two rounds of golf, one on each course. Played the Mathern course on Sunday. No buggies due course condition. Not surprised, it was a disgrace and by far the worse course I have ever played. Our local municipal is in a better condition. Awful signage, poor tee markers, the greens were no better than my rear garden lawn.

The old course was a significant improvement fortunately but didn't make up for the disappointment of the first day.

We stayed overnight, I was stopping in the ?affordable housing? village. Dirty, full of daddy long legs and spiders. One can of water for two people, one pack of biscuits, no shampoo or shower gel, only conditioner and body lotion. Very disappointing.

The bar was just shy of ?20 for three pints, couldn't even drown our sorrows there without flinching at the bar bill.

Played the Mathern Course today for the first time and wan very impressed. it seems like this course has been forgotten about. The fairways were as rough as the rough should have been and the rough was so thick that if the ball did land in it, you were very lucky if you found it. None of the tee's were marked and the sign at the beginning of the course which pointed to the first tee actually pointed to the 10th tee, so we had to play the back 9 first. The layout of the course was also so complicated and there was no signage to direct players to the next tee that we spent most of our time looking for the next tee. Also he greens were quite poor and extremely slow.

Overall this course needs a lot of work done to it as it is the worst course I've ever played. I'm just glad I only paid £10 for the round.

I was rather disappointed with the standard of the greens which were very uneven and fluffy, resulting in unpredictable speed and direction of puts. Some of the tee boxes were similarly bare and untidy

The greens were in very poor condition on the Old Course and not much better on the Mathern
The Golfing staff were very friendlym helpful and approachable apart from the Club Shop assistants who didn't offer any advice or assistance
I don't normally recommend companies/organisations anyway and I certainly wouldn't pay ?1,300 pa to become a member here

Mathern course seems to have been forgotten course at St Pierre. Greens are very wooly, therefore very slow. They are uneven so had quite a few bobbles. It does have some challenging holes all in all but would play the old course everytime over this course.

Bit fluffy but weather been terrible

Can see course is good however given the weather it was a bit fluffy. Stayed at the hotel, which was great apart from the evening meal that was very average.

Terrible greens in September 2021

£25 for the open day, greens very average and course fairly bland, having watched the european tour play in the 90s this was a major let down.

course was redesigned in 2008, some nice holes but a course is rated in it's putting surface and these are just terrible.

Good course But!

Played the old course on the 1st day, fantastic condition, especially the greens, they were like putting on snooker tables. But i thought the course was just a little bit bland with no hole really standing out or memorable apart from the 18th, We played the Mathern course the next day, and all our group thought it was the better course, it to was in fantastic condition, but in our opinion had more interesting holes on it.Hotel, food, and bar were ok, if not a little exspensive, but you expect that if you stay at these places. All in all 2 good courses...but!!
