Gleneagles announced as Host Venue for The 2019 Solheim Cup

By: Golf Shake | Mon 02 Nov 2015

The Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire, has been selected as The Host Venue for The 2019 Solheim Cup by the Ladies European Tour.

The Solheim Cup is the biggest event in women’s golf, pitting a team of Europe’s top female golfers against their US counterparts. The biennial tournament will next be held at Des Moines Golf and Country Club in Iowa, USA, in 2017 with Gleneagles chosen as the next European venue.

Gleneagles proved to be a hugely popular venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup

The news comes just one week after it was confirmed that Gleneagles will also play host to the inaugural European Golf Team Championships in 2018, the first joint professional men’s and ladies golf competition to be staged.

Managing Director, Bernard Murphy, commented:

“We are extremely proud to be chosen as The Host Venue for The 2019 Solheim Cup. Gleneagles has a great history of holding major international events and we are delighted to be able to add The Solheim Cup to that list. We look forward to welcoming the teams and spectators from both sides in 2019 to take part in what we are sure will be yet another memorable event.”

The tournament will be hosted on The PGA Centenary Course - a Jack Nicklaus Signature Design -  the same course which saw Europe triumph in The 2014 Ryder Cup.

Gary Silcock, Gleneagles’ Director of Golf, commented:

“It’s a real coup for Gleneagles, and Perthshire, to have the opportunity to host another high-profile golfing event. The Solheim Cup has an audience in the hundreds of millions, globally, and it will bring thousands of spectators to the area.

“After hosting a successful Ryder Cup last year, we are really focusing on bolstering Gleneagles’ reputation as a flagship European golfing venue. Our ambition is to build on the great tradition of golf at Gleneagles, which dates back to 1919, by developing events across the entire spectrum, including men’s, ladies’, junior and senior tournaments for both professionals and amateurs.”

Gleneagles is home to three championship courses –The King’s, The Queen’s and The PGA Centenary Course – the 9-hole “Wee Course” and Scotland’s PGA National Academy, which offers expert coaching for all abilities.

The courses are open to members and visitors alike, with a host of attractive tee times and stay and play packages available at gleneagles.com/golf
