Kedleston Park's Bradley Moore wins Carris Trophy

By: Golf Shake | Fri 31 Jul 2015

17-year-old Kedleston Park member, Bradley Moore, has lifted the coveted Carris Trophy at Little Aston in a wire-to-wire Kedleston's Bradley Moorevictory complete with course-record third-round 65.

Kedleston Park is a beautiful, mature parkland course set in peaceful countryside within the grounds of magnificent Kedleston Hall, a grand 18th century stately home just a few miles northwest of Derby city centre. It has long been regarded as one of the finest golf courses in Derbyshire and the East Midlands, so it should perhaps come as no surprise that it should have produced a number of high-calibre golfers over the years.

The latest name to add to that list is 17-year-old Kedleston Park member, Bradley Moore, who marched to an impressive five-stroke victory in the Carris Trophy at Little Aston in Staffordshire from July 21st to 24th. Bradley was one of just two players, along with Dane, John Axelsen, to finish under par after 72 holes.

The Carris Trophy is the English Boys Under 18 Amateur Stroke Play Championship, and has been contested since 1935, with Sandy Lyle, David Gilford, Peter Baker, Graeme Storm, Justin Rose and Tom Lewis among the previous winners to go on to enjoy tour success, and even Major Championship victories in the case of Lyle and Rose.

Moore, who came close in the same event last year, led from the start with an opening 69, and took a three-shot lead into the final two round thanks to a second-round 72. But it was the third round that really set him on the road to victory – a marvellous course-record 65, packed with eight birdies, that saw him surge seven clear of the Dane with a round to go.

He couldn’t quite recapture the magic in a final round played in non-stop heavy rain, but his closing 74 was still good enough to see him home by five. Moore was understandably delighted after last year’s near-miss. “I definitely wanted to come here and show I could win,” he said. “It also means a lot because it’s my last year in boys’ golf and I wanted to get a big boys’ win. This gives me confidence going into the English amateur next week, then the European amateur and then straight to the British boys.”

This major victory consolidates Bradley’s status as one of the most promising talents in under 18s golf, taking him to the top of the England Boys Order of Merit by some margin, a table which he also topped in both 2013 and 2014.

Kedleston Park offers a competitive, but friendly and welcoming environment for golfers of all levels. For further information on Kedleston Park, please visit www.kedlestonparkgolfclub.co.uk, email [email protected] or call 01332 840035.
