Competitive golf isn't always easy to access, especially if you're not a member of an affiliated golf club, which is why Golfshake recently teamed up with Amateur Golf Events (AGE) to create a dedicated Golfshake bracket at The Shire in Hertfordshire alongside their popular amateur events series.

Golfshake members were given the opportunity to experience one of the UK's fastest-growing amateur tournament series, with a separate Golfshake leaderboard and prizes available exclusively for those taking part.

For those unfamiliar with Amateur Golf Events, the series now features more than 20 events across the UK, giving amateur golfers the opportunity to compete on a variety of highly regarded courses in professionally organised tournaments with the chance to win entry into the grand final at The Grove later this year.

AGE events are open to golfers who are members of affiliated clubs and hold an official handicap. The Golfshake bracket at The Shire was created specifically for Golfshake members who don't currently have access to those opportunities, with a separate competition and prize structure running alongside the main event.

One Golfshake Ambassador, Mel Davies, who took part came away hugely impressed by the experience.

"When I saw there was an event being held at The Shire, I was immediately interested," he said.

Booking was straightforward, with players able to select their preferred tee time online before receiving a comprehensive pre-event information pack covering everything from tee times and rules to live scoring and leaderboard access.

The positive impression continued on arrival.

Players checked in with the event team before receiving their scorecard and a welcome pack containing a drink, energy bar, tees and a pitch mark repair tool - small touches that helped create a premium feel from the outset.

"It was all very welcoming and well organised," our ambassador explained.

What is The Amateur Golf Events Experience Like?

The tournament atmosphere was immediately evident on the first tee, where players were greeted by event staff, starters and sponsor branding that added a professional edge to the day.

Once out on the course, competitors used the Golf Genius app to submit scores and follow the action as it unfolded.

"You enter your scores and your playing partners' scores into the app and it's really that simple," he said. "One of the best parts is being able to see the live leaderboard while you're playing."

After the round, scores were verified and submitted through the app, with full results distributed electronically later that evening. The rolling tee time format also meant there was no need to remain at the club waiting for presentations or prize giving.

Having played in a variety of opens and competitive events over the years, our ambassador felt the overall experience stood out from many others.

"These events really are great for all levels of golfer and offer the chance to play some great courses while feeling like you're part of something special."

He added: "I've played in a few opens over the years, including one at The Grove earlier this season, and I have to say the organisation and the way you're looked after is a step up from anything I've been involved in before - and that includes some county tournaments."

The success of the Golfshake bracket at The Shire has already generated plenty of positive feedback from participants and demonstrated the appetite for more opportunities of this kind.

The competition itself proved to be incredibly close. The top two pairs both finished on 37 points, with the winners only determined on countback, while third and fourth place were also separated by countback after both teams returned 35 points.

While entrants in the Golfshake competition were not eligible for the main Amateur Golf Events prizes, a dedicated Golfshake leaderboard and prize allocation ensured there was plenty to play for throughout the day.

How You Could Join Golfshake Members in Future Events

Following the overwhelmingly positive response to the Golfshake bracket at The Shire, further Golfshake events will be announced later this year and into 2027, giving more golfers the opportunity to experience the Amateur Golf Events series.

The first of those events has already been confirmed, with the Golfshake Cleeve Hill Pairs now available to book. Taking place at England's highest golf course, the event offers another chance for Golfshake members to enjoy a competitive and professionally organised tournament experience.
