10 picks to win the 2026 US Open

The US Open gets under way at Shinnecock Hills on Thursday. It is a course that is sure to test the world’s best players to the limit - and perhaps beyond!

Having first shared a few outsiders to watch, here are 10 players I expect to be there or thereabouts come Sunday afternoon.

Scottie Scheffler

Odds: 6/1

The world number one is playing some magnificent golf without getting the rewards his play deserves. But he has an added incentive for winning - if he does so he achieves the Career Grand Slam.

Cameron Young

Odds: 18/1

Arguably the best player on the planet just now. After finding it so hard to get across the line, the American is now a confirmed champion and is only missing a major title. This could be his week.

Matthew Fitzpatrick

Odds: 22/1

The former US Open champion has emerged from his slump in spectacular fashion in 2026. He has it all - accurate from the tee, a fabulous iron player and the touch of an angel on the greens.

Robert MacIntyre

Odds: 55/1

The Scot was runner-up to JJ Spaun 12 months ago after a wonderful final round. He has a magnificent short game but needs to keep his temper in check if he is to land his first major.

Tommy Fleetwood

Odds: 20/1

Currently the best player in the game without a major to his name. He finished second the last time the US Open was played at Shinnecock Hill and will be looking to go one better this time.

Tyrrell Hatton

Odds: 35/1

The English golfer is a big-time player who always seems to produce his best golf in the majors. But he is a hot-head. Can he keep cool enough for long enough to accept the bad breaks and win? Time will tell.

Sam Burns

Odds: 35/1

A hugely gifted American who should  have won 12 months but faded horribly in the final round. He is a magnificent ball striker and, crucially, has a wonderful temperament.

Brooks Koepka

Odds: 33/1

Koepka won here in 2018 and is now back playing full-time on the PGA Tour after quitting LIV Golf, It has taken him time to find his feet but he is beginning to look like the finished article again.

Xander Schauffele

Odds: 20/1

Schauffele won two majors in 2024, the US PGA and The Open, but struggled with injury and form throughout last year. However, he looks to be almost back to his best and has the game to win the US Open.

Jon Rahm

Odds: 12/1

Finally looked like the player we all know he is at the US PGA Championship. A terrific driver of the ball, the Spaniard has a tendency to let bad breaks get to him but he will surely contend this week.
