Golfers nationwide have been participating in The Big Golf Race to raise vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK, and among them was Rick Shiels, the world's most-watched golf content creator, who took on a 100-hole challenge last week.

Rick took on The Big Golf Race, playing 100-holes of golf in a day to support his camera man, Ben Wright, a member at Prestwich Golf Club in Manchester, after Ben’s father was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer.

Upon hearing about the challenge, Motocaddy pledged to donate £100 for every birdie made during the challenge, further boosting the fundraising total by the pair. The world’s best-selling trolley brand also donated two M7 GPS REMOTE trolleys for Rick and Ben to use, plus an M5 GPS DHC trolley for guests joining them for rounds during the day.

At the end of the challenge, the birdie pot stood at £2,500, which Motocaddy decided to double to take the final donation figure to £5,000.

"We’re delighted to have been able to help boost fundraising efforts for Rick and Ben for what is an unbelievable cause. The day was a mixture of celebrating their efforts, but also remembering why we’re here in the first place," said Marketing Director, Oliver Churcher

"When I heard the numbers around prostate cancer, with 1 in 8 men being affected, and how it’s now the most common cancer in England, anything we could do to raise awareness or highlight the risks to men across the country was a no-brainer. A big well done goes out to Rick and Ben for taking on the challenge, but also being an inspiration to those suffering with prostate cancer and all those that have been affected," he added.

Since The Big Golf Race was launched in 2020, it has become the biggest golf fundraising challenge in the UK, with more than 14,400 golfers raising over £4.5m. This year, Prostate Cancer UK - the leading men’s health charity - is encouraging more golfers to go the distance to help save dads, grandads, brothers, partners and golf mates. They can do a Half Marathon (36 holes a day and approximately 13 miles of walking), the Marathon (72 holes and over 26 miles) or the 100 holes Ultra Marathon (36 miles on foot).

"I want to say big heartfelt thanks to Motocaddy for the support of not just the birdie fund, but for the electric trolleys that helped us round 100-holes," said Rick, who has nearly three million subscribers on his YouTube channel and has raised over £200,000 for Prostate Cancer UK in the past.

"When Ben told me about his father’s diagnosis and his desire to take on The Big Golf Race, it was an immediate ‘yes’ from me. I like to try and support Prostate Cancer UK every year if I can, having walked, cycled and hosted golf days in the past, but 100 holes in a single day was a really tough challenge, especially in the heat, but it was all worth it to help raise vital funds to help save men’s lives," he added.

Golfers can sign up for The Big Golf Race via the challenge’s microsite and will receive a fundraising pack, including golf balls, tees, pencils and a fundraising guide, plus there are opportunities to earn incentive gifts with every swing.

Every golfer who raises £250 will be entered into a draw to win a once-in-a-lifetime golfing holiday to the Aphrodite Hills Resort in Cyprus, while the overall top fundraiser will claim the ultimate golf package worth £3,000, courtesy of Titleist.

"Every penny from every challenge means so much to us and it gets us closer to the ultimate target of having prostate cancer being easily detected and stop men from dying," said Daniel Richards, Brand Partnerships Manager at Prostate Cancer UK. "Having Rick use his platform to raise awareness of our messaging is amazing, and to have the golf community come together, like Motocaddy, to pledge what they have is special. We want to thank everyone that has been involved in this challenge, but also the 2,500 golfers who are also taking part this summer," he added.
