Jorge Campillo Player Profile And What's In The Bag

By: Golfshake Editor | Mon 13 Mar 2023

Spain's Jorge Campillo won the Magical Kenya Open by two strokes after shooting a final round of 66, claiming his third title on the DP World Tour. The 36-year-old joins his legendary compatriot Seve Ballesteros in lifting a title that is rich with history.

Afterwards, the former Qatar Masters winner reflected: "Having the lead is not easy and it's such a special feeling to win a golf tournament. The crowds were quite fun here and you know the history of the tournament is quite nice as well. I played great all day, beside that little short putt I missed on 11."

Player Profile

Jorge Campillo

Born in Cáceres in the west of Spain, Campillo made a major impression during his college career at Indiana University, including representing Europe three times in the Palmer Cup.

Turning professional in 2009, he spent a period on the Challenge Tour before qualifying for the European Tour in 2011. Despite contending regularly and posting some excellent finishes, it took until 2019 for his first victory on the main circuit, which came at the Trophée Hassan II.

11 months later he defeated veteran Scot David Drysdale in the Qatar Masters just prior to the COVID shutdown in 2020. His best standing in the Official World Golf Ranking was 59th and he has competed in six major championships without making a cut - a fact that he will be hoping to address this year and beyond.
