59 Shooter Oliver Fisher Made Honorary Member at Victoria Course

By: Golfshake Editor | Tue 25 Sep 2018

Dom Pedro's Victoria Golf Course witnessed a piece of history during the Portugal Masters when Oliver Fisher shot the first round of 59 on the European Tour, and celebrate that achievement, the Englishman has been made an honorary member.

In his second round, the 30-year-old posted the record-breaking sub-60 score around the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course, a feat that has taken nearly 700,000 rounds to be achieved on the European Tour.

“I would like to thank the Portugal Masters and the European Tour for an amazing week last week and Dom Pedro Golf for their gesture in making me an honorary member at the Victoria Golf Course,” commented Fisher.

On the final day of the tournament, Fisher’s fellow countryman, Tom Lewis, came from two shots back to win the Portugal Masters for a second time, his first victory in seven years. Lewis’ 22-under-par total of 262, edged out Lucas Herbert and Eddie Pepperell in a nerve-wracking finish.

“The 2018 Portugal Masters has been a thrilling one for us here at Dom Pedro Golf,” said Mr. Stefano Saviotti, Chairman, Dom Pedro Hotels & Golf Collection. “It has been great to see the professionals take on our Victoria Golf Course and battle it out for the trophy. It has also been a pleasure to have been part of a record-breaking moment for the European Tour, in which we are honoured to award Oliver with a lifetime membership and look forward to following his progress in years to come.”

Additionally, social media was awash with admiration for Dom Pedro Golf, with several participants during the week offering their compliments to the brand and its course.

"It is fantastic that our second Portugal Masters has been received just as well as last year by tournament organisers and competitors alike," said Keith Cousins, Shareholder of Dom Pedro Golf.

“The event has been watched by many millions of viewers worldwide and we have demonstrated why Vilamoura and Dom Pedro’s five golf courses have earned a reputation as Europe’s most popular golfing destination. Huge congratulations to Oliver Fisher for making European Tour history with his 59 and to Tom Lewis, who was a deserved winner of what was a truly special Portugal Masters.”
