The bar prices are an absolute disgrace - a pint over ?5, an orange juice and lemonade ?6 (how does this encourage a soft drink drinking driver?) and a Jameson ?8.50.

Overpriced

A good layout, but leaves a lot to be desired. The arrival is very nice, although better signposting for the proshop would be better. Couldn't use the driving range due to a lack of staff. Not really great when the price is nearly £100. One major oversight that would be relatively inexpensive to fic though would be a course layout on the cards, next tee marks or at least a hole layout on the tee. There are a few times where you have blind shots and unless you are playing with a member or have played before, you have no idea what to expect ahead. The 2nd hole and the 11th particularly in this regard need some signage. Finally, the tees were in very poor condition. Uneven, not repaired well and just a bit of a mess. I can't say I would recommend playing here for £100, there are significantly better courses in the south west for less.

Its the small things that make a course stand out and they are sadly lacking here. It is one of the prettiest courses I've played with the front 9 really interesting but the greens although looking good were incredibly slow and over watered. The back 9 isn't in the same league and not a huge challenge but ok ish.The bunkers hadn't been raked for some days as several still showed signs of a heavy storm several days previous and many were full of animal footprints. Several tees weren't of a great standard and we received a soaking on one tee with the watering system on full blast at 3pm. Some pathways weren't well maintained and lacked a bit of TLC and ball cleaners are an endangered species. Overall a real shame as could have been so much better. Glad I didn't pay the the full green fee of £70 as that is a ridiculous amount for what you get. Add to that the most expensive coke in the western world doesn't give me a craving to rush back despite the beautiful tranquility

Lovely course that does not cater for golfers

Played Bovey this weekend as part of a 3 game weekend as a group of 8.
Pre booked our tee times well in advance and was not disappointed with the course , amazing and in great condition but ther is a big But !!!
Turned up 1 and ate hours early to relax and have a coffee etc and take in the atmosphere.
When to pro shop / hut to check in and asked where we can get the coffees only to be told you can’t !! Why not ?? Residents only !!!, ok we will buy some soft drinks, sorry only got warm water !!! Had no choice to purchase, can we buy some chocolate for half way round please, answer haven’t got any !!! So all in all for a course of this stature and status just appalling they really do need to sort this out, had empty terraces that no one was using overlooking the grounds, utterly disappointing and frustrating, come on Bovey castle sort it out !!!

Very pretty course, fairways and greens in good condition. Plenty of water in the form of streams, brooks and ponds. Great views. Quite remote and out of the way to get to. Only two gripes. Firstly, the black and white marker post in the 17th is positioned far to much to the left. I hit a drive straight over it only to find an area if out of bounds directly behind it, very frustrating and spoilt an otherwise good round. Secondly the prices of drinks in the bar are just two high - £4.50 for a coffee is just pure greed!
