What the club says: Situated in the old Walton Hall estate, this is generally regarded as the premier municipal course in the north of England. It began with nine holes in 1971, was extended and redesigned six years later by Dave Thomas and Peter Allis, and is now a championship standard 6800 yards with 3 par 3's over 200 yards long.
In a picturesque parkland setting, with fine views from the 13th tee, it boasts many mature trees and a lot of water which comes in to play on seven of the holes. The course was featured in the BBC Golf Magazine article "The Best Courses in Britain for under aTenner a Round", Summer 1994.

Returned after 12 years+
With recently having a New hip nothing like getting back in the Golf mode. I'm a bugger for punishment and love a challenge that is what i found on doing the full 18 holes. Actually by mistake i did 19 by playing the 17 twice. Dozy me not knowing to cross the road to pick-up the 8th holeIts very scenic course and hard on the legs with so many inclines on 80% of the Holes. Be aware of the kickbacks, even on a good Tee drive can be diverted hitting an area of mound as i found on a few holes. A very enjoyable round as the holes give you a great variation of the dangers as described on the course website, so take notes as they can be beneficial. The ground crew have done a great job and were working on cutting at the time i was golfing.
As for the greens condition after recent hot weather they are almost 100%, with small areas that still need that personal touch. Overall it was a great long day. The 18 holes of golf took me 5 hours around the 3.4 mile course, lucky i had an electric trolley, saving pushing it up the hills.
Advice worth thinking about Buggy hire if you're deciding to do the full 18 holes.
I hope to return again to try knocking down my score like all other golfers who practice the game. Great course worth a visit if you haven't tried it.

Let Down By Staff
Visited there last Saturday, with 11 other society members. Course was in really good condition but the day was ruined by the staff in the pro shop. They had confirmed that we would have two buggies, but when we arrived they had no record of it on their system. That left us with 8 and the other 4 had to go back home.Reviewer Rating

Needs Attention
Play most Sundays & yes we have seen the price go up to £25, & I thought we would see improvements on the whole course given it's now gone up to £25, now I know we have had rain etc but other than the greens, I thought or we all thought the course wasnt great at all. The fairways were terrible & you cudnt tell the fairways to the first cut to be honest...so £25 doesn't justify playing when the course looks shabby, don't normally complain but this has to be said.Reviewer Rating

Great course for summer
Huge lovely parkland course. With some challenging holes. Just missing some water features and best played when dry as drainage is not the best.Reviewer Rating

Greens a bit tired
Good course and decent price. Can get busy and booking times can mean nowt if there is a queue in front at the first tee. It's interesting, testing and the holes are well thought out. Lots of dog legs and greens are running fast and looking a little threadbare for early June.Reviewer Rating

Boggy fairways, greens boggy and aerated and lack of course management self-evident. Course should have been closed as unplayable. First time played and will be the lastReviewer Rating
