Amazing views, tough approaches

I suspect this course is sometimes a bit overlooked, situated as it is just south of the Princes/St George's/Cinque Ports stretch of world-class links. It's not a links - although, on the top of chalky cliffs, it often plays like one - but it is a very classy layout which will test the best golfers. The rest of us (eg golfers like me) may struggle on some of the tougher holes. When I played, it was gloriously sunny with hardly a breath of wind. On a day when there's a good breeze off the North Sea I imagine this will be a beast. It's a glorious location though - you can see France one way and Ramsgate the other from many of the holes. And the course is a proper championship test - long, wide fairways, big changes in elevation (more on that in a minute), large, impeccably maintained greens and some superbly(or devilishly) positioned bunkers. In fact, my only criticism is the three holes on the back nine built into the side of the cliffs. The result is fairways with such a pronounced slope you cannot keep your ball on them. The straightest drivers will find themselves at the bottom of the slope just like the worst slicers or hookers. Some may call this quirky, but to me it felt as if good shots were unfairly punished. A small point, because otherwise, especially on a nice sunny day, you'll have a fantastic experience at "the club on the cliffs".

Great course

A really interesting course in excellent condition. I've played this course a lot over the last few years and its now in as good a condition as I've ever seen it. Fairways are good, they have clearly been working on the approaches, bunkers are in good condition and greens are true without being too quick. Some of the views over the channel are stunning.
Overall, it's highly worth a visit.

A beast of a course, when the Channel wind is blowing! A good challenge at any time, the proximity to the coast makes this a real test.

Steep hilly clifftop course. Only 3 flat fairways on the whole course, 1,2 &9. Course in good condition.
Very dry. Ball runs a long way on fairways and greens. Some greens are cut back into the fairway leaving up to a 3 ft verticle drop from fairway to green in some cases with downhill run. Challenges the chip and run skills. Would recommend a buggy if you struggle walking.

Cliff Top Beauty

This is a lovely course with spectacular views over the sea. We played in their Open Week and so the course was very busy, but the pace of play was fine. The greens were true and fast. The fairways due to the lack of rain were fast and because of the slopes on many of them you have to think about placing your ball in the best position to get maximum run. We have played this course on a number of occasions, always in sunny conditions and so my thoughts may be coloured by the lovely conditions. However, do try it if you are in the area. I do not think you will be disappointed.

Nice course that starts off easy and gets more challenging. Interesting slopes to fairways. Ball runs on a long way due to chalk layers. Greens OK. Play was a bit slow due to a competition.

Interesting course, great views of the White Cliffs. A lot of the holes are played on sloped fairways so you need to think your way around. Greens were good and ran true, many had well placed bunkers to catch errant approach shots. Club house and facilities were ok, unfortunately our group of 12 were slowed down by a society that were starting on the 9th when we arrived.

An unusual course. The distances are often misleading due to big downhill, uphill or sloping fairways. Accuracy is definitely key as a small mistake can be punishing due to the gradients. the front 9 is not too different, but the back has some very strange holes. The 13th is a good example. A good drive to the right edge of the fairway will roll down the hill 50 yards plus to the left to pick up the fairway to the pin. All in all a fun course in good condition and the greens were excellent.

Excellent course in great nick. Bargain at £25 through Tee Times. Members are very friendly and helpful. You hardly ever get a flat lie on the fairways which can be a challenge but it's a great challenge to have. When we played they had HT'd and sanded the greens, but they ran very true although a bit slower than normal. To add to the pleasure they had Brains SA in the bar. Lovely way to end a glorious Sunday afternoon. We will be back
