Bland

We visited late April, group of 7 of us. First the corse, we arrived and the greens were sanded to within an inch of their lives. We were paying £50 per head and I mentioned it in the pro shop and was told they will play unaffected. They were dreadful, pretty much unplayable. If they’d have offered a tenner off each I probably wouldn’t be writing this review but just charging us full whack when they were in this state was out of order.

The actual course is well kept but generally boring. On at least half the holes you are putting as someone is teeing off 20 yards away. You never feel lost in the course, it’s layout is set in such a way you are always around someone else. It just didn’t feel like it justified the cost of playing here. We played llanymynech the day before and I think we had been spoiled with the views and variety of holes. Everything here felt bland in comparison.

Also as a side note, the club didn’t feel very welcoming at all. It felt snobby, and after playing there I’m not sure what there is to be snobby about.

Won’t be back, sorry.

Disappointed in the condition

Last played 10 years ago and was really shocked to see how poor the tee and greens are now. Tees scruffy, long grass uncut and mud areas after little rain this summer. The greens very patchy and slow and not cut close, maybe they are trying to put them right but they not there yet. It remains a stunning setting for a golf course and lovely decking area overlooking the 18th but cannot justify the ?62.50 each we were charged for a Monday green fee plus a buggy. It's about ?25 too much.

The back drop/view is the best bit!

Can't fault the views set by the river flanked by both sides of the valley which is stunning. The 18th is a great finish with the clubhouse and floral displays as the backdrop.
Too many ordinary holes (bit up and down) where you can stray onto adjacent fairways too easily. Also a bit compact around the 4th 8th and 14th tees.

The best holes that are unique are the 1st a cracking opening par 5 (but beware the water/ditch which you can't see in front of the green). The ninth is a cracker running round a dog leg with the River Dee roaring along on the right hand side (Favorite hole). The 16th with the beautiful valley sides as a backdrop and 18th are the 4 best holes. Everything else is quite ordinary really.
So for £40 I expected more. No country cards accepted
Not a hard track but a nice round - nothing amazing. But will try it in the summer

Played for the first time in less than ideal conditions after some days of rain and partly during rain this is quite a long course off the yellow tees and more so in 'heavy' conditions. It was still a worthwhile exercise and would be delightful in better conditions as the scenery from the valley in which the course is situated is stunning. The staff friendly and light and airy clubhouse nice.

Fantastic setting and great welcome

Have played here a few times this year. The setting is stunning with great backdrops of the Welsh hills. Definite improvements in the course recently and it appears a lot of work going on to bring it back to top form. Greens running lovely and true and reward a good putting stroke - 9th hole is on another level from tee to green. Good laugh with the guys in the pro shop and nice hot food with a beer afterwards. Great day out just over the Welsh border. Will be back in the spring.
