Great course design. Interesting and enjoyable. well maintained considering time of year 11/11/2014. Friendly, welcoming & professional staff with excellent facilities and food.

Course was in excellent condition. It's been extremely dry and the greens, tees and fairways were green. Other courses are yellow/brown, however when paying £60 a round in a weekday, I would expect that.
Clubhouse is not the manor house, which really only comes into view on the 18th and is a shame since you would expect a nice clubhouse for the money, but then the clubhouse does offer nice changing facilities a good pro shop and nice bar so can't really complain.

Decent course although he weather has taken its toll in some areas including the bunkers also a bit pricey. Friendly staff and nice food.

The course was in excellent condition. The preceding day saw alot of rain but the course is well drained so it was not a problem. The tees was well placed, the fairways quite forgiving and the greens very well maintained. The club facilities was very good and the pro shop well stocked. I played in a four ball with two players being members. This provided some benefits to us that might not be availble to all visitors like reduced green fees and use of the locker room and complimentary coffee. I enjoyed the round on what it clearly the best course in Essex. I can most definately recommend it, and hope to be playing there again soon.

Thorndon is my favourite course in Essex. It is placed in a pretty park landscape and the course has a great variety of difficulties. Detailed knowledge of the course layout and hazards is recommended as many holes (e.g. hole no 4) will otherwise spring a surprise and grief. The greens are just perfection (July 09). I never managed to cause a dent, yet they grip backspin and are the quickest I have ever experienced. Expensive, but worth it as a treat...at least once. Alternatively, go next door to Hartswood for a similar setting, slower greens, and a quarter of the price.
