Played this week for the first time and was very impressed with the course, easily the best in Essex that I have played. It\'s kept in immaculate condition, with everything playing extremely well for the time of year. The clubhouse is nice although a little small. Great course which I highly recommend.

The course was in excellent condition. The preceding day saw alot of rain but the course is well drained so it was not a problem. The tees was well placed, the fairways quite forgiving and the greens very well maintained. The club facilities was very good and the pro shop well stocked. I played in a four ball with two players being members. This provided some benefits to us that might not be availble to all visitors like reduced green fees and use of the locker room and complimentary coffee. I enjoyed the round on what it clearly the best course in Essex. I can most definately recommend it, and hope to be playing there again soon.

Very nice course - worth a visit

Course in great condition although the greens were extremely slow. Bunkers very well maintained, fairways in good condition, tee boxes level and not cut up with divots.

The course is good but the rough is very high at the moment and they've left a collar around the bunkers which is unnecessary

Worth the visit

This is a member only course and the visitor price is reflected in this - ?50 with county card, so not the cheapest deal. The course does live up to the billing and is well looked after with lovely greens in particular. The catering and service was very good and there was plenty of space on the patio given the requirement for social distancing. A well organised course with a fair challenge to please all golfers.

Excellent course

Thorndon is a lovely course in a beautiful setting with no disappointing holes, and surely the best course in Essex. The fairways have taken a beating over the dry summer and preferred lies would not have been inappropriate on some. The greens were good. Played during COVID restrictions, the clubhouse was OOB and an interview meeting closed the drinks service by the time we got in.
