The pro shop is welcoming and the staff are helpful, there is a range of equipment available, but certainly not to the level of most members courses. There is a modern driving range with space to practice, and as I took a few putts on the practice green I was hopeful that the course would have greens as smooth and quick. i wasn't dissappointed!
Standing on the first tee you look ahead and see a dogleg right ahead. The course is in very good condition, the tees are well manicured, the fairways are well cut and provide a decent playing surface. The first cut of the rough is only a slight disadvantage, but if you venture too wide you will find rough which punishes. The bunkers were very wet, so i couldn't really make a decent assessment, but all had plenty of sand and are located in strategically awkward positions. On landing on the green, the ball holds well, before putting as the practice green promised, by far the best greens I have played on a municipal course.
The course as you go round, although par 69 seems quite long, two lengthy par fives which are a challenge to even decent length hitters and a 215yd par 3 helps! The five par threes are well designed and very attractive to look at, inviting to go for, but not unforgiving for errors. The course is a good challenge and walk. The frequent noise from the planes going in to the airport is not bad enough to put you off a shot, but will stop a conversation unless you are stood next to each other! the M1 being so nearby provides a rumble, but not a distraction from the course.
The bar is well appointed for the building it is in and provides a decent selection of food and drink.
Having moved to Luton 3 years ago, I wish I hadn't waited so long to play the course and will be returning often.
Summary: The course is fantastic and I can't recommend it, enough a midweek round for £15 is better than anything else I've found for the money or quite alot more.
