Great Course, lovely setting

In Great Summer Condition
Fast running inland links type course with super varied layout. Greens were excellent on a damp day. Not played it for a year but thought the shaping of the rough and the seeded long grass was gorgeous and in a fair place away from the main playing line. The clubhouse is well kept and the atmosphere is great, the members are very friendly and welcoming to new members. The course is in good condition and getting better as the weather improves, the course is built on chalk so the drainage is great and is never closed!

Course in good condition, greens were good considering the recent rain but some badly repaired pitch marks in places (golfers really should learn how to repair them properly). Some challenging holes that are rewarding to play. Strongly advise a round or two here but would avoid when windy. Not a cheap course but you get what you pay for.

Twilight round price makes this a viable proposition, otherwise similar experience can be had at better rates. A good long course, plenty of practice for the driver. Play can be a bit slow.

realy great inland links fast greens fast farways should score better next time i play play it ,3 putted severall times this course is a must play .

First time playing at this club. Trouble knowing where to lay up etc on some holes. Greens lovely - extremely quick which added numerous shots.
Would like to come back now that we know the course and get nearrer to shooting our handicaps.

There was a very warm welcome in the pro shop as I signed in for my round. When you're at a golf club for the first time the pro is a big part of the first impression you have of the club, and the guy who booked me in was both cheery and helpful.
As for the course, I couldn't figure out whether it was running through a valley or on the side of a hill. Whichever it might be, there are lots of holes going either up or down hill, although not severely enough to cause issues with walking the course.
Even from the yellows the course is quite long, but with hard fairways it plays a lot shorter. The fairways are all fairly inviting and you will have to be very wide to find any of the long rough. It's a very open course with trees bordering the fairways on only a few holes, so I can imagine that windy days will cause issues here.
The greens were quick and smooth, and just undulating enough to make you think that little bit harder about the line.
There are some really nice looking holes here, and the clubhouse sits overlooking the pond and the 18th green. There's lots to like about South Winchester.
