I played on an afternoon with a fair green fee of £29. The course is in lovely condition and with the irrigation system everywhere was green which make a change, there are 6 holes of over 400 yards off the yellows which is a good test and the shortest par four isn't really worth going for as they have a ditch at the back of the green. Hole 16 was very tough with the wind against and all bushes and trees down the left hand side catching any errant shots. good practice facilities too

A good test of golf
Played the course Monday afternoon 10th July after a hot/dry spell of weather and was pleasantly surprised to find both the tees and fairways to be in good condition due to the on course irrigation system. The greens were also very good, quite quick and putted true.There is a good mixture of short and longer par 4's and to score well on these holes you had to be fairly straight. I really liked the four par 3's - all around 150 yards from yellow tees but they were all well bunkered to catch wayward shots - a good test of accuracy.
Unfortunately there wasn't a course map available either on the tees or on the card and lack of course knowledge cost me a high score on the last due to the the back bank of the fairway bunkers being covered in thick rough.
Score 85 handicap 16.7

Great course
A very nice course for both beginners and experts alike. Play it safe as a beginner and get a good score, or if more confident, go for broke on some very good risk and reward holes. Would very much like to play this course again.(Round played: Jun 2017 - Score: 120 Handicap: 27.1)

All I can say to anyone thinking about playing Sonning is to take the oportunity, especially if you can get a good deal on one of the tee time sites. There are 18 lovely holes of parkland golf to be enjoyed, with tees, fairways and greens that were all in very good condition. The fairways are generally pretty wide, with a lot of the holes/greens protected by a number of bunkers and subtle breaks.
I played it on a day when the ground was dry, which certainly helped reach a number of the longer par 4's. There are four par 4's longer than 435 yards from the yellows. To balance that there are only a couple of par 5's, neither of which is especially long.
The welcome at the proshop was very friendly, as were the staff working behind the bar.

despite a cold snap and rain the course was very well presented and in great condition. Minus point were the bunkers hadn't been racked that morning a some had deep sand.
Lovely location and staff very helpful.

£30 (which although I appreciate is a big reduction from their usual fee) for a twilight round with 18 temporary greens is not good at all. The greens were wet but some may have been used, and they looked good so very disappointing not to go on of them.
