Be warned however, it is a difficult course, especially when the wind blows, some of the rough is evil and there's plenty of gorse about to eat up those bad shots. If you're new to the game or a bit wayward, you could easily rack up a massive score and empty your bag of balls.
Although it shouldn't put you off from visiting, the clubhouse isn't great to be honest. It's not comparable with other top venues and although it's reasonably priced and the food is of a good standard, It's too small with too many tables squeezed in to the bar/restaurant. The service is friendly but it can be a little chaotic. When I was there the poor waitresses were running around all over the place and two of them fell over chairs, almost on to their faces. Also on one occasion they completely forgot about our starters and served mains only. There is also no outside seating area.
One other thing if your planning a visit to this area. There are so many good courses in this area, don't waste any time or money playing The Struie course, unless you've already exhausted Brora, Golspie,Tain, the 2 Nairn courses, Moray, Forres and probably a few more.
The Struie is very dissapointing, it probably has 3 or 4 good holes but a lot of them are up and down a flat field with very little definition. The greens aren't as good as The Championship course either.
You must play The Championship course though.

Truly a Champion (Royal Dornoch)
From the minute you arrive, Royal Dornoch oozes class. Great welcome, friendly staff, the place has a proper “Golf Aura” surrounding it.Starter was great, lovely little pack, bag tag, scorecard holder, planner, a lovey memento.
The course was just immense, from The 1st, (The First) to the 18th (Glenmorangie) every single hole was a joy to play. Don’t think I could pick a favourite, and, to me, there are no weak holes. Just lots of enjoyment.
At a place like Dornoch, scores don’t matter. But, it’s always nice to sneak a birdie somewhere, probably on the way out.
I loved all the par 3s, none of which are particularly long, proving Par 3s don’t need to be 200+ yards.
Once in your life, just forget the expense, and play Royal Dornoch

Mr Danny Brooks
The Struie is the sister course , but what a challenge , as with all links the fairways are bumpy but cut like greens , stay on them and you can score well , and the greens , wow you really have to know your wedges to land on these , if not its putter all day long from as far our as 70 yards , great experience, to play on a course up there with the bestReviewer Rating
