Really lovely course but 2 groups of 3 were supposed to tee off at 12.00 and they didn't tee off until 12.20 and 12.30 when we were booked to tee off so consequently we were held up.

Tight and challenging course

Course was in great condition, greens fast, rough knee length in places so needed to keep it tight and on the fairways, but a really enjoyable game! Need boards on the tees though showing hole layout, length, stroke index etc., as the marker stones were extremely difficult to find and overgrown in places.

Memory Lane - Lovely Course

This course is very dear to me in terms of sentimental value as my family had been head greenkeepers there for over 60 years but strangely since I've been playing it's only my second time playing. A natural course (no bunkers) is both challenging and unforgiving in places. It is reasonably short but you have to get your numbers right. The greens and fairways were in reasonable order. We were there as part of a group of 12 so a deal was struck. The hospitality was excellent and very friendly and I was able to re-capture so old times as well. Highly recommended and next time I would dearly love to play the old course,

Worth a visit

We played the Old course on the last day before lockdown 2.0 in early November. It was our first visit and I will definitely be back one day, hopefully to play the West course as well. We had a friendly welcome and despite lots of rain in previous weeks, we were blessed with fabulous weather, adding to the already stunning scenery. The course itself held up very well in the wet conditions; only on two holes was it actually an issue and then only minor really, so a good off season option as many courses were waterlogged that week. Definitely glad there was no wind on the day though, that would've really increased the test. Some of the holes were pretty straightforward but enough interest with hills, heather and trees. Will be a fairly challenging walk for some. Would recommend.

Easy to see why this is in the top 30 courses in England

Our society played Royal Ashdown old course on 17th September. Magnificent condition and a very fair test but stay out of the Heather. Hit it straight and be brave. Equally impressive was the welcome and attention from all the staff. As we neared the end, our last group were tired and offered to waive through a member two ball who politely refused. In the clubhouse we apologised to them and they said they wanted to make it a great experience for visitors so they would come back! How refreshing. A top venue and a top drawer experience. I can't recommend more highly.

Wonderful golf course with some of the best holes of golf in Sussex.
We had a few heavy showers that disrupted the round and the course held up ever so well.

Greens were good, fairways sloping as ever but alot of the harsh penalising grass was cut back, so less time wasted looking for lost balls

ashdown west course a very good traditional English course very rare in as much as it has no bunkers, but bracken and streams aplenty.

Nice course, challenging steep angled fairways at times, greens in fairly good condition. A little short on yellow so best to play off the whites. Course maintained pretty well, needs more distance markers, no bunkers was unusual.
Food, drink fairly priced and good quality. Staff very polite and helpful in both the pro shop and the restaurant. Will certainly play again.
