Firstly, this a fantastic golf course but I think it's missing a bit of a trick. It really needs to swap the two nines. At present, the back nine has some really good holes but the front nine is so spectacular that it pales in comparison. I spent most of the back 9 pining for the front and that's really a shame. The back 9 is good links golf with well placed bunkers and some nice driving holes. But the front 9 is truly spectacular. Huge, enormous dunes to be driven over, round or through. Massively elevated tees where you feel you can see the whole of Ulster. I didn't drive particularly well and, at times, I felt like a mountain goat. Balls 3/4 feet above or below my feet each time. The front 9 at Portstewart is exhilarating. If you could combine it with the back 9 at Carne you would have the most exciting golf course in the world. The Clubhouse and staff were extremely friendly and welcoming.

Played with a member so only £20 but I do not think any course is worth £110 weekdays for a round. However, it is an amazing course. Beautiful and so tough. Greens like upturned bowls, bunkers everywhere, long and very windy. Would be even more difficult in the middle of summer if very dry!

Great wee course about 4 shots easier than the Strand. Well maintained - worth playing if the Strand is busy.
