What the club says: Founded in April 1901, the original course comprised nine holes and was laid out on the western part of the present course. Additional land was leased in 1908 and Ben Sayers, the professional from North Berwick in Scotland, was commissioned to design an eighteen hole layout.

A round at Castlerock will test every department of your game. The 200 yard par three signature 4th hole, called "Leg o' Mutton", requires a tee shot struck over a burn, with a railway track lurking to the right. Great courses offer great closing holes and the short par four 18th at Castlerock is no different. Even with a good drive on this slight dogleg, due to the contours of the fairway, you are often left with a relatively blind approach to a tricky plateau green.

Graced with the natural beauty of its peaceful setting and the views that surround it is the Club’s underlying pursuit of excellence that keeps this place a sacred retreat for the truly ardent follower of golf.

very much an underrated links course simply because it's next door to Portrush and Port Stewart but it is a bargain and a must play when in this area. There are some terrific holes and great views above the 17th tee. Absolutely recommended

A great course to play links golf without spending loads of dosh. We payed 370 for a round on a Sunday. The greens were in fantastic nick and the course is really beautiful with lovely views. Wind plays a huge hand. A real challenge. The tee boxes and fairways are not in quite the same nick as the signature courses. A fantastic course all the same.

Hidden Gem

Great links course , often forgotten as its next to Portrush and Portstewart but worth a visit too. We got soaked and the rough was juicy but had a wonderful time.

A must play!!

If you are on the north coast of Northern Ireland you MUST play this course. It is superb. Everything about it is great. The staff are all so friendly and helpful, and the course is in excellent condition with superb views, especially up by the 17th tee box. Will definately be back here again to play it.

High Handicappers nightmare

I played with a low handicapper who loved this course but for me and the other high handicapper in our three ball this course proved very difficult. Many of the tee shots are intimidating with fescue a hazard even before you reach the fairway. I have never seen so many players searching for balls on a course and the day was calm not windy. It is a lovely course and it is in immaculate condition but if you drive to land around 170 yards you will be in trouble on many holes. Low handicappers enjoy a course that is set up for your game.

Tight course so don't go off the fairway or the grass is punishing and hard to find your balls. Greens in fantastic condition and dry underfoot all around the course. Some slow groups and cutting in made it a frustrating 3.5hrs when it should have taken a lot less.

I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed with the first 3 holes here, but I was delighted with what followed. After a bland start, the 4th is a fantastic par 3 with out of bounds (and a railway line) all down the right, as with the following par 5. The course then wends it's way through the dunes, with the most punishing rough of any course we played on our Northern Irish tour. Some great elevated tees and greens. We were unfortunate to have a consistent rain throughout our round, which obviously made the course more difficult, but it's a really good golf course. The clubhouse and Pro Shop were hugely welcoming and accommodating. A must play if you're on the Causeway coast.
