What the club says: Built in 1888 and redesigned by Harry Shapland Colt in 1947, this incredible course climbs its way up, down and around some enormous sand dunes. The views were stunning and the course was in excellent condition when I played in late October. The greens were fabulous and playing on the course had a real Open Championship feel to it. The starter was an entertaining guy and the clubhouse had a real sense of history. The view as you walk onto the 5th green is breathtaking. It was fairly tough and expensive to play the course, but it was worth it to play one of the top ten golf courses in the world.

Worth every penny

If you are thinking about paying the green fees. Do it. The weather included 25kph winds and heavy heavy showers yet all three of our group loved it. We were made to feel really welcome by the staff. The practice faciliies were open to all of us at no extra charge and made us feel like pros. The course was incredible. The views, oh my god the views. The course is so hard. Take plenty of balls especially if you are like me a little wayward off the tee. We loved every moment of the challenge. We were wet and none of us played anywhere near our handicap but it was an aweome experience and we were made to feel welcome in the Restaurant after where we ate great food whilst looking back on a fabulous afternoon.

Superb track!!

First time playing any of the Royal Portrush courses and they are superb. Played the Valley course and tricky enough. Beautiful fairways and excellent greens. Even the bunkers had proper sand in them to play out of!!. I will definately come back and play here again. A must when in Northern Ireland.

Definitely one to miss!

In my opinion they have ruined this course. It used to be a difficult course, but a fair course and rewarded good shots. With the British Open coming to the big course in 2019, they took two holes from the Valley Course and introduced three new holes, none of which add to the course. I, being a pensioner of 72 years struggled to get up to the elevated tees, which at least 12 holes now possess and you can't hire a buggy, maybe I won't be back!

Worth playing

Royal Portrush Dunce links are the famous ones. This course is right by the side of it so in many ways presents similar challenges. Maintained to the same high standards but accessible to the high handicapper. You can use the practice facilities at the main clubhouse with complimentary range balls.

They have altered this Valley course slightly, as they have lost two holes to the Dunluce Links for the 2019 (British ) Open and the present 16th is a par 5 and a better hole, in my opinion, than the old 17th which it replaces. On the downside they have lost the old 18th, par 3, but maybe after 2019, they will restore it!

Having missed out on playing this course several times I managed to get to play it today with a member, therefore the value for money was excellent. The new pro shop is looking excellent and the course itself was immaculate. The course has the most stunning scenery and every hole brings it own new challenge. I got to play it on a day with a smallish breeze which made the course challenging but fair. The greens ran very true the bunkers had gloriously soft sand, they were enjoyable to be in. The last hole was a little bland but from what I can see of the two new holes this course is only going to get better. The par three 14th "Calamity" is a daunting hole and I think that the stroke index may be wrong as it is S.I.16!!! Lovely challenging shot. The fifth hole which is the furthest from the club is the most stunning hole, wish I could play it every day of the week. Can't wait to play it again, especially when the new holes are in play. A course everyone must play.

Played on a very misty day which was a shame so hard to form an opinion. Greens under treatment as they all seemed to be in April, which probably explains the shoulder rate.

This is a good links course and would probably be higher rated were it not sat next to the hugely impressive Dunluce. Holes into the wind play extremely long (40mph when we played the following day). The 6th is a brilliant long par 3 into the breeze, although at 235 yards you need to cream that driver, but the downwind par 5s were easily gettable in 2 so it balanced out. Good mix of holes with some nicely elevated tees. If you're coming to play the Dunluce, make some room for this place.
