This golf course is short in lengh, but the dangers and defence of it is the greens, none are flat, so get on the wrong side of the pin and you can 3 or 4 putt.

the fairways were abit long, greens were ok, it is short course, getting to the greens is the easy bit, getting ball in the hole is not easy, no green is leval.

Here for a 36 hole scratch tournament. Course in very good condition with very slopey, very quick green. Pin positions were just stupid but that was down to the YGU rather than the club itself.
The course is short but tricksy - some criss crossing holes where you have to look around for shots from all directions. 2 things really 'bugged me on the day.

1) The club had asked players not to take practice swings on the tee. Now I don't know about you but I have very rarely seen a golfer who doesn't include a practice swing as part of his preshot routine. I saw 3 groups tee off the first tee and at least 1 in each group duffed his tee shot. Bear in mind this was a scratch tournament with players on handicaps down to +3. I really don't think it is acceptable to ask players to change their pre shot routine. Needless to say after the first hole no-one took any notice of that.
2)Bugs! The course has a bog in the middle of it - literally - it is a bog of special scientific interest. This means the bugs are twice the size and twice as ferocious as normal bugs. No matter the time or day you are playing or the weather conditions spray yourself liberally with mossie spray. I couldn't believe the Pro shop didn't stock it - he would have done a roaring trade!

The food is fantastic, great value for money and served with a smile - huge portions too.

Drinks another matter - found bar staff slow and grumpy - not ideal when you need fast service between rounds.

Interesting hidden away course !

I say hidden away, this course is off the A64 to York so is effectively hidden in plain sight ! But once you get within the grounds of the course you begin to see how nice it looks and how interesting some of the holes seem. The front nine is perfectly fine, many straight holes with no too much trouble. You play the 4th and unfortunately because the signage for the next tee off point is in a place where you might not see it, we took a really long walk to find out we were at the 7th and had to walk back again. But once you get to the 7th hole things get a lot more interesting and I would say from that hole onwards this is a course everyone would like. Lots of interesting layouts and hazards to avoid, the 15th is a beast of a par 3 mainly because you hitting towards the A64, with the car park and clubhouse left and people on other greens right. A very careful hit ! We would certainly return in better weather as it was raining the greens on some holes were nearly unplayable with standing water everywhere. For ?20 we thought it was good value and the clubhouse was nice and the staff were helpful and inviting. We will return when the sun is out !
