The course was in poor condition on 21st July 2014. The greens and fairways needed attention. Bunker sand was generally coarse and compacted. Distances between some tees is taxing for the walking golfer. The course plays quite long and is a challenge for the high handicapper.

Windy day

On a very windy day and a lot of debris blowing across the course and especially the greens, making putting a bit of a challenge, but the course played well, although the bunkers had a lot of water in them.

Still need to improve

I have played this course several times before and have never played it well, but this time was the best so far. The course was in good condition, apart from a few of the tee boxes had not recovered from the summer dry spell

Very wet

The course like many others was very wet, the fact it was open compared to thers was a bonus

The Northampton course is a good test of golf, although there are half a dozen or so holes straight up and down the course which can be a little boring when you've played there a few times. Bunkers could do with more sand, especially green side. Still no excuse for my poor score!

Interesting and hilly

A very scenic interesting and hilly venue. Very picturesque holes and great views. Tough holes, a lot of water to get over, very well protected greens. Course was in great condition, hospitality was exceptional as was the food and drink. Slightly on the pricier side but worth a visit.

Well worth a visit

I've always enjoyed playing here, as I consider the course has more 'memorable' holes than perhaps any other course I've played.

Greens this year were like last year - a little slower than I expected, but were still quick and very true, and there are also some fairly severe slopes to try and get your head round.

Fairways were well cut.

Bunkers seemed to be well maintained, and the ones I visited had plenty of sand.

We played as a team of 4 with incredible value at ?88 for all of us in their Senior Open which, as from this year has been made into a Senior Men?s Open. This is great value at ?88 for 4 players (22 each). Normal cost is ?45 a round, or ?25 with a County Card.

It's not a particularly long course, and despite having a number of GPS devices between us, AND a yardage book; a lot of shots were short or long because we didn't get the distances right, or judge the bounce correctly.

We didn't eat, other than snacks at the half-way house, and the included bacon rolls as part of the cost of the open, so I cannot really comment on food cost, but one of our group did study the menu, and was pleasantly surprised at the food cost.

We have all expressed a wish to return to play again.

Great course, well worth a visit

I've always enjoyed playing here, as I consider the course has more 'memorable' holes than perhaps any other course I've played.

Greens this year were a little slower than I expected, but were still quick and very true, and there are also some fairly severe slopes to try and get your head round.

Fairways were not cut as low as I've seen previously here.

Bunkers seemed to be well maintained, but I only visited 2, and there was some concern amongst our party that there was minimal sand in them i.e. dig too deep and you hit clay.

We played as a team of 4 with incredible value at ?88 for all of us in their Senior Open which can be any combination of men or women over 50 (I think ? it might be over 55). Normal cost is ?45 a round, or ?25 with a County Card. It's not a particularly long course, and despite having a number of GPS devices between us, AND a yardage book; a lot of shots were short or long because we didn't get the distances right, or judge the bounce correctly.

We didn't eat, other than snacks at the half-way house, and the included bacon rolls as part of the cost of the open, so I cannot really comment on food cost, but I would guess it is reasonable, as I know it is popular with other golfers.

We have all expressed a wish to return to play again.

Another lovely day

A lovely day to play golf, grass was lush and made it hard to get out of the rough, sometimes it was difficult to see your ball in it. The greens had been scarified and sanded which made it a little bobbly when putting, but all in all a good course to play
