Reviews for Muirfield Golf Club (The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers)

The Dishonourable Company
Poor experience at Muirfield. They don't try very hard to conceal the fact that visitors are a nuisance the members could do without. Was playing in the evening and was told that use of the (empty) range pre-round wasn't afforded to 'evening guests'. The website makes no mention of evening guest being treated any differently when it explains that visitors can use all the practice facilities. The course itself was in terrific condition but I was underwhelmed by the layout. Lots of good holes but lacked anything particularly memorable. I played Turnberry earlier in the year and the layout at Muirfield isn't even close to the new Turnberry. Plus the welcome and overall experience at Turnberry was outstanding versus a very poor level of welcome and service at Muirfield. If paying visitors are so much of a nuisance perhaps the Honourable Company shouldn't allow guests as treating people paying their hard earned money like this is contemptible.

There were a lot of building works going on which detracted from the overall experience. Also, it seems as if everyone was forces to tee off early - resulting in the course being empty (or nearly) in the afternoon.
Worth a visit - if you can get a discounted tee-time.

Superb condition
A wonderful, fair golf course in superb condition which, played off the back tees, is a tremendous test. Some wonderful views of the Forth. The atmosphere is firmly traditional but very welcoming and friendly.Reviewer Rating

Top tier links experience
I played in November 2022, on a cold but crisp day with a gentle breeze - shoulder season prices are definitely value for money. The overall experience was excellent. the course requires you to hit good golf shots at every turn - the design is a great test of golf for your average golfers. Interesting, it's hard to pick 1 stand out hole, as the quality is spread across the course. Off course, the clubhouse is full of interesting memorabilia, and the lunch worth the effort of a jacket and tie with views to die for out across the links.Reviewer Rating

The complete package
It is the complete package. The setting, the welcome received, to the facilities, the course and a meal afterwards in the clubhouse and a drink on the terrace. Pure class and a chance to play where greats of the game have played.Reviewer Rating
