Best value golf in the country

This has got to be one of the best value golf clubs anywhere. The condition of the Grenville course isn't great, but certainly a challenge. The main course is very good for ?7 per round and there?s even a 9 hole par 3 course as well.
Accommodation is also available at a bargain price - pretty basic, but all you need for an enjoyable few days of golf on a budget.

Millfield

This is a course that should only be played in winter when it's wet and you then have the slim chance of being able to hold the ball on the greens which are poor... The tee boxes are bare and uneven. The bunkers have no sand at all.. We only play there on our society fundy as its cheap and local. We play there in winter as its the same as spending ?5 at the range.

Perfect for beginners.

Overall the course is perfect for budding golfers to start out. The grounds are relatively easy to navigate once you've got your bearings, although hole signage could be improved. The staff are always friendly and the members are always helpful, patient and kind.
The grass is cut regularly and to a decent standard.

Quirky course

This could be a little gem if it had a little bit of TLC. It is what it is empty beer cans and bottles all over..

Live locally in Lincoln, play Millfield regularly now after discovering it a couple of months back. Perfect for beginners (due to cost (£2 for the 9 hole course, £4 for the second 18 and £6 for the main 18), how quiet the courses are every time i have been and the relaxed nature of the complex as a whole) but also suitable for more serious players due to challenging holes and layout.

Course very pleasant to look at and all in about 7/10 condition. Lots of courses locally in better condition but none for the same value for money. Every time my playing partner and I go we comment that with only £100 or so investment on the whole course for some better tee markers or a little map on the back of the scorecard the playing experience would be worth £15-a-pop for sure! This is negated somewhat though as once you have been around the course once and know where you are going (or take a picture of the map of the course in the clubhouse) your enjoyment will go up massively.

Agree with other reviews that the lady in the clubhouse needs to be replaced but i only see her for about a minute when i pay so doesn't take away from the golf at all really.

In summary; Unbelievable value for money, good course that is accessible, challenging and set in very nice looking countryside and woodlands. Will be continuing to visit regularly.

Ground very hard despite rain. Greens were very good, fairways and tee beds less so. No real advantage to being on fairway on some holes. Good for price and facilities.

We only played the 9 hole par 3 course. Has the potential to be a nice par 3 course but needs the greens sorting and tee boxes. Good for practising your approach play.

At only ?8 you can't go wrong really. The tee boxes are in decent condition, as are the fairways but some of the greens are a little rough. Fairly easy course for a slope rating of 143. Overall had a good afternoon.

Not bad for the money

This will be a mixed bag of pros and cons. It's definitely decent value, I've played courses that cost three times this much for a round, and enjoyed them less, so this course is not bad for £8. I've played the main 18 at Millfield quite a few times. It's not the best, but pound for pound it's hard to beat. Some challenging holes, but if you can hit the ball straight you should get a decent score as it's not got many dog-legs. My only gripe is last time I went one of the pin placements, I think around hole seven, was ridiculous. It was at the top of a down-slope on a green, and is essentially impossible to play unless you can sink it straight away; no chance of a two putt or bin-lidding it. If you miss slightly to the side, or under-hit it, it was just rolling straight back down. Extremely frustrating as it used to be on the flat bit of the green, and with that placement I must've dropped about six or so shots. I'm all for a challenge but that wasn't a smart pin placement. All in all, not a bad course, just watch out for hole seven! Oh also if you go on a Thursday, beware, it's seniors day and when I went on a Thurs last year they got a bit uppity with me for trying to tee-off when it was "their day". A bit of advice, playing the main 18 watch your tee shot on hole two, there's a hedge about 245-250 yards from where you tee off and the green is about 25 yards the other side. You want your tee shot to go about 180 yards, so you have a comfortable wedge in. If you end up near that hedge it's not an easy hole to par.

Millfield golf course

Great course it's the old story you get what you pay for . If you can afford to pay fifty pounds plus a lot more your not going to enjoy it . But it's fantastic value for your money. And there a few tricky holes. I would definitely recommend it .if you enjoy your golf for not too much money . What a bargain.

More than one to play

Par three is great for kids but also some good challenges for your short game. The main course is great to play with the second course being more challenging! Total.value for money which ever you decide to play.
