What the club says: This 18 hole championship golf course hosted PGA EuroPro Tour events from 2001 to 2003, and provides a great test for golfers of all abilities. Hollins Hall is a challenging course, the best defence being the huge undulating greens and well positioned bunkering. The signature hole 14th called 'viaduct' is a tricky par four providing a masterpiece in tactical design with the 19th century viaduct providing a fantastic backdrop. From an elevated tee, golfers must negotiate 4 fairway bunkers, a dog-leg and two water hazards before being tested on the two tier green.

Great layout, badly maintained
This course could and should be fantastic. Fabulously designed, with a challenge or two, or a wonderful view, on EVERY hole. Very few courses I could say that about. However, and it's a big detraction, the grass all over the course was a disgrace! The fairways weren't cut at all! You could lose your ball on them! The "2nd cut" forget about it, and the rough you might not get back alive from! Such a crying shame. There were about 20 of us with an overnight DBB deal. Food was nice. Rooms were nice. Staff all seemed nice enough. However bar a couple of them they're all teenagers. Gives you an insight into how much of a shoestring the place must be run on!
There were no scorecards.... 1st time I've ever heard of that! There was tonnes of sand consistently in the bunkers so all good there, and the greens were decent and really tough. I can't remember the last time I'd over 40 putts but I did here. Everywhere else on the course the grass is ridiculous!

Hollins Hills
Renamed Hollins Hills, First time here, but was warned it was quite hilly. lol. the lift to the first tee was much appreciated. The fairways were very dry due to the lack of rain and we found the greens to be a little bobbly. but despite this, we enjoyed the challenge in very warm conditions. I Know next time to hire a buggy tho.Reviewer Rating

Course not really ready
Tee boxes and greens not in good condition yet, fairways a bit thin and claggy. Probavbly rate a lot better when there has been a period of fine weather. Some good holes especially on the back 9 which is superior to the front 9Reviewer Rating

Lovely lay out, great staff welcome
We cancelled another nearby course which had holes shut to play this for the first time and we weren't disappointed. First of all, what a pleasant and professional welcome by the golfing staff, so helpful and looked after our group of 11 players from the minute we stepped through the door. We had arrived early to go and explore some of the many good local courses and they let us know about the better ones locally. When we returned, they drove us all up the hill to the first tee and got the whole group out early. The course was a bit damp but completely understandable given the recent weather, only two temps which were still challenging. The course lay out is very typical of hotel golf, so quite open, good bunkering and the green are superbly designed with almost every putt having some break in it. Even though I played really well and loved the course, I would really like to come back in summer when you are getting roll out on the fairways as some holes are definitely going to play easier in that weather eg hole 9. But in a time when a lot of courses are struggling to keep all holes open and courses playable, this was a fantastic experience. As a result of the staff welcome, their willingness to chat and inform us about the course and hotel we are looking at dates to return for a weekend visit which seems to be a complete bargain at a suggested ?99 DBB and two rounds. Well done to the staff, some courses could learn from how you treated everyone who arrived to play golf yesterday.Reviewer Rating

Hidden course.
First visit to this extremely tricky course which you need to be a mountain goat to play without a buggy, a mistake to which we did not know as it was our fist visit here but trust me not one we will make again if we return. Very picturesque with the stunning views over the moors.(Round played: Aug 2021 - Score: 101 Handicap: 23.8)

Nice course.
Played a Golfbreaks weekend. Wouldn't like to walk to first tee as it is a very steep climb but luckily they have a shuttle buggy. Some of the signage to next holes not very clear. Very good greens with plenty of tricky pin positions. Loved the 14th signature hole. Unfortunately we had booked for the night of Euros final and the club was busy. Disappointed that they didn't open the Spikes bar to ease the crowding (especially during COVID times)Reviewer Rating

It?s getting wet
Unfortunately the course has had a lot of rain recently and the fairways were extremely wet and we couldn't use trolleys or buggies on the fairways.Having said that with pick and place you could find some dried spots and the greens were in excellent condition.
Having played the course before I can recommend this course as a really good challenge and will return next year when it's more dry.

disappointing greens
Hollins Hall is a beautifully designed course , it was very pleasing on the eye. There were some challenging holes and steep hills to climb. But quite a few of the greens were sub standard even though it was August the greens on certain holes were like winter greens with rutted parts so putting was awful.Reviewer Rating

Nice course with great scenery
Played Hollins Hall a few times now and have always enjoyed playing it when under the Marriott brand but was disappointed on this occasion. Hotel showing signs that the course is secondary to the accommodation, pro shop now gone instead it is a small amusement arcade with just a desk for the golf check in. Course showing signs of neglect, tee beds scruffy, fairways not mown, no definition. Greens were good but too quick for this type of course. Shame as it could be an excellent golf course with some great holes and lovely scenery, so come on Elite get it sorted.(Round played: Aug 2019 - Score: 79 Handicap: 6.2)

Great Course
Early morning round in slightly damp conditions. The greens are in fantastic condition, albeit very fast and particularly slippery downhill! Every hole is unique with an interesting mix of challenges: length, water, bunkers - the trees are becoming more established at the sides of fairways. All round enjoyment and amazing views across the valley. (Don’t forget to get a lift in a buggy to the first tee unless you are very fit!!)(Round played: Aug 2019 - Score: 85 Handicap: 16.2)
