What the club says: Baildon Golf Club was founded in 1896 and offers an excellent Par 70 moorland golf course, with magnificent views and superb facilities. The club is situated close to Bradford and is easily reached, yet enjoys a lovely country setting.

The course is unique to the area as a traditional heathland course with no fairways running side by side. The closely mown fairways are generous, with the rough made up of wild moor grass and heather, this combination makes the course a fair test for golfers of all abilities.

Great round

One of the more scenic courses in Yorkshire and a very unique test. Worth it for the par 2 second hole alone which no matter how many times I play it always seems to get the better of me. The wind is the biggest factor to contend with.

good testing course in the wind. quite challenging as if you hit in the heather there's no point looking for your ball. some great views. greens were in perfect condition despite the fact it's rained constantly for the last 8 months! Will play again in the summer to see how it is. Would recommend.

A round of two halves

I’ve visited Baildon on occasions for many years. So when I got a call from a pal asking if I wanted a round, I absolutely agreed. It’s a fun if not uninspiring at times loop, and with the weather being biblically bad, I knew Baildon would be open. They never seem to close it. In this case sadly for me that was its downfall.
Firstly I must point out the weather had been incredibly wet. Even my home course, which sits even higher on the moors than Baildon was closed that day. So to get a round in at all was a bonus.
The greens were in great shape considering the weather. Ran true and relatively firm. They were a pleasant surprise.

Sadly that can’t be said for the rest of the course. It was incredibly wet. Half of the holes walking up the fairway, we were essentially ice skating on mud. It was actually quite dangerous at times, especially the changes in elevation on the course. We were early out, possibly the first out as we had no one in front. However, the course got busy, and I imagine the paths from green to tee and the fairways would get more and more muddy as the traffic on them increased.
We could lift clean and place, sometimes this involved moving 20-30 yards back or to the side to avoid standing water. So for us visitors, it didn’t affect us much. We played our 18, the greens were decent and we got off.
I feel for the paying members though. The club seems unable to close the course when necessary, and because of that the condition will likely be ruined for months into the new season.

The course layout is split in two for me. There’s probably half of the holes that are a fun and interesting design to play. The 2nd and 15th spring to mind. Some of the best holes in Yorkshire IMO. There is a lot of straight up and down holes however, that leave you uninspired however. Some re-shaping and new bunker placement would elevate these holes if the club has money to invest.
Until then, it’ll always be a place to go when your course is closed, or when you’re playing with a beginner just getting into the game.

Course was suffering from the recent weather and clearly weren't able to water the greens, which was a shame as it made some of them almost impossible to putt on. Was a good setup, with some very tricky holes. certainly a course you need to play more than once to give it a good go.

I played this course a couple of years ago when they had lost the greens and it was terrible. They have worked tremendously hard to rectify it and I can honestly say the greens were fantastic as was the rest of the course, but to be fair the weather was superb and we didn't have to contend with the wind.

We booked on Teetimes and only paid £12.50. Despite the course being immaculate (perfect greens) it was fairly quiet out on the fairways. If you're looking for millionaires golf with a great links experience you can't complain at all. Good exercise as well with the hills but not ridiculous, would strongly recommend.

In answer the recent criticism, we are undergoing a significant greens renovation at the moment with an awful lot of money being spent on reintroducing moorland grasses for the longevity of our wonderful course. For the best views in Yorkshire come and play a fair test, designed by James Braid it will certainly prove a challenge for golfers of all levels. Will your game stand up? Come and join us.

I mention the weather in this review because on the wettest day in October we could not play the intended course up the road, Bingley St Ives, so because Baildon was open we plumped for a round here. Even with the horrendous weather the course played very well - drains well and not too much standing water on fairways or greens.
Picturesque with several stand out holes, a few tight carries to the fairway and some dangerous rough. Keep the ball in play, using your shots wisely in getting to the green and you can get a decent score on what is a scary course. The greens were woolly (due to the recent weather no doubt) and had been spiked but still ran very true.
The very small but reasonably stocked pro shop was manned by a very welcoming and helpful bloke.
A moorland course with hints of links that is a gem - but take some good waterproof / windgear as it's exposed up there!!!!

In calm conditions, the course plays short, but if you miss the fairway you are looking at a lost ball. You can get round using a 3iron off most tees as the only two par fives come at 17th and 18th, and apart from the 15th, all of the par 4\'s are under 400 yards.\\The gorse/heather is worse than anything the USGA comes up with and the greens are very fast. The greens on holes 8 to 11 were brown with virtually no grass. Pick of the holes were the 2nd, 3rd and 8th.\\Watch out for the walkers and their dogs, as well as crossing the main road. I would recommend playing the course but take plenty of golf balls!
