What the club says: Join our Golf Club in South Ockendon, Essex
Standing in 140 glorious acres near the historic Ford Place on the South facing side of the Mardyke Valley, our South Ockendon Essex Golf Club is an exciting 18 hole parkland course. The long undulating fairways and water hazards give rise to some of the most challenging holes in Essex.
This seriously testing golf course was designed ‘by the members’, ‘for the members’.
Initially designed as a 3 hole Golf Academy, it grew into a 9 hole course. The free draining land had a huge potential and was destined to become something more; which it did, by becoming the outstanding 6201 yard, 18 hole par 70 course it is today.
The greens, fairways, paths and trees are all excellently maintained by our Course Manager and his team. Being blessed with exceptional drainage and a state of the art irrigation system, it ensures the best experience as the entire course remains open all year round.
Located in South Ockendon, Essex it’s just near London with only 5 minutes drive from the M25, A13 and the Dartford River Crossing, making it accessible from all directions.
Our Clubhouse with 270 degree views of the golf course, offers a bright, comfortable, relaxing environment in which to enjoy a drink and delicious home cooked food.
The golf shop is open every day and our Pro Matt, is on hand to give any advice or guidance to enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.
Visitors of all levels are welcome, so please give us a call to book your next game of golf on 01708 855011 Or use the BRS Golf App. See our calendar of events.

Course in great condition
There have been a number of reviews posted criticising this course, but on our visit (21st October 2025) we found the course to be in very good condition. The greens were all excellent and the fairways have already recovered from the long dry summer. There were a number of artificial grass tee boxes, which would be my only real criticism.
This is a very forgiving course which will flatter good golfers, but encourage those with high handicap?s. This is reflected in the slope rating.
Unfortunately the clubhouse is currently being refurbished, so there were no facilities for food or drink and the pro shop is somewhat limited.

Brilliant Day
Another brilliant day at Mardyke. Looked after well. The only down side was the GPS controlled buggies seem to have a mind of their ownReviewer Rating

Not in the best shape atm
Played on a weekday. Weather was sunny and hot, slight breeze. The greens were in great condition as were the tee areas.
Challenging course
Rest of the course:
- fairways very dry and cracking up;
- Very Poor sign posting to the next tees
- hazardous to walk from the 13th green to 14th Tee area

Great condition
We play here regularly and always enjoy it. You've got to make your pars/birdies where you can - on the easier holes - because there are some really challenging holes. When we played May 12th, the greens were in fabulous condition - receptive to irons, but like a carpet to putt on.Reviewer Rating

Lots of room!
All fine, greens a trifle slower than expected. Course is flat to the most part. Food was good. Buggy was a nightmare, being turned of in random places which were apparently ‘restricted’.Reviewer Rating

Little gem
I always love coming to this course, it's maturing into a great course, tee boxes, fairways & greens all excellent, a credit to the green staff for their hard work. It's great value too at ?27.50 & on Monday & Tuesday get a breakfast thrown in. I find it quite a interesting & challenging course with a super signature pond hole, all staff friendly with a lovely clubhouse serving tasty food.Reviewer Rating

Mud free in November
The course was in good winter condition. There was grass in all areas - no mud on my trolley or shoes at the end. The green keepers had electrified fence at ground level to stop badgers digging.Reviewer Rating

Very pleasant walk with decent golf
Nice place - food good, course in good condition, challenging at times, greens very good and true. Only anoyance was the fact that the buggy wouldnt let you near the greens, in most cases about 40 yards away!!! In worse case I had to drive through some trees to get from one hole to the next as it wouldnt let me down the cart path!Reviewer Rating

Welcome return to Mardyke
Its matured in 10 years and the 6th/7th and 8th are very tricky these days especially the 557yds par 5 6th and the par 4 8th. 120 yds carry over water and narrow entrance to the water. Deep rough around 2-3 yds off fairway. Greens in good shape but tees a bit ropey at times.Reviewer Rating

Good condition, considering the rain
The first few holes get you thinking that it's going to be an easy course, but there are some lovely holes and some challenging ones too. Hole 6 is a tough par 5; hole 7 is a nice little dogleg; 8 is a fabulous hole - go long off the tee and you'll hit the water, but lay up too short and you'll have a long carry over the water. 10 & 18 are long par 4s, and the par 5 14th has a stream right in front of the green. The 15th is great.Reviewer Rating

An Interesting Course
Firstly, this was played in February, so it had been very wet. In line with other local courses, they look to protect the course, by insisting on winter wheels and carrying only when it becomes too wet. There were a mixture of temp tees which were of a good quality and normal tees. The greens were in superb condition for the time of year, as were the bunkers that I visited. The fairways desperately needed a cut, but it had just been too wet, it was difficult to see where the fairway ended and the rough began. We did preferred lies everywhere as the ball was constantly muddy. There are some really tough holes and a few easy ones, but all in all, value for money. It has a nice club house and friendly staff.
