Great Winter Venue

Had the most fabulous day at Kington. Other local courses water-logged but free-draining Kington provided a dry, sunny venue with clear skies to see those panoramic views. Great winter destination.

Challenging but is it fair?

Firstly, loved the views and the people there were very friendly. However, it is a course that needs a guide because if I hit a fairway straight in the middle I expect it to stay on the fairway! Too much hunting for balls that were only just off line. Greens were unresponsive to even the most delicate chip as i found myself off the back on numerous occasions. Not for me I'm afraid!

So good I played it twice!

Stunning views and a spectacular location, this was one of my best days on a golf course. I was lucky to have chosen a perfect early autumn morning for my visit to England’s highest course, but it may have been very different in a strong wind. After 18 holes, I had a lunchtime break, learning some of the club history from a genial member, then went out for a second round.
Fairways are the roughest and bumpiest I’ve seen, maintained only by the sheep whose droppings are all around, but I couldn’t help smiling as I played to the sound of complete silence except for the occasional ‘baa’!
Putting surfaces were better than I was expecting and much quicker, so chipping onto greens isn’t easy, especially those cut into the sloping hillside.
Despite being 1284ft above sea level, I found this an easy walk with much of the uphill part being between tees. Long will I remember the sweeping par 5, 14th, the steeply downhill par 3, 15th and the final hole over a gorge.... hit your driver at the flagpole, then watch it roll down towards the green!
I enjoyed a drink on the clubhouse balcony overlooking that 18th green as the sun went down.... what an awesome day!!

Just gorgeous.

Astonishing views, with notable holes to match. At least 10 holes had me grinning from ear to ear. Par 3s are all brilliant. If you can deal with sheep, grass bunkers, and imperfect fairways (more like a links course really...), then look it up. Will be rembered for some time - and an absolute bargain too (vs quality of course design). Felt like proper golf, when so many courses get so hung up on irrelevant distractions. Great for the mid-handicapper too, as not super long.
Loved it.

Wonderful course - particularly on a good visibility day. Extraordinary views as you play all round the top of the hill. Extra hassards in the form of sheep. Try to get a 2 on the 18th (par 4), by driving the green (aim to left edge of pro-shop is the tip)

An enjoyable round of golf on a very interesting course. Having never played the course before we had a warm welcome from the club Pro Sarah and the club staff, not to mention a nice breakfast.
the course is varied with some of the best views I've ever seen. There is a mixture of short par 3s and open fairway par 5s where you can get the driver out. The greens were pretty quick and the overall condition of the course was great and the fairways were neat. Being so high up it was a little windy so take a windproof jacket bit it didn't retract one bit from the golf. I can't wait to play there again.
