What the club says: Kington Golf Course is rated as the 28th Best Course in the UK to play for under £100 and Herefordshire's Number One Golf Course.
It was one of the first courses designed by renowned architect Major Cecil Key Hutchison, and offers stunning views of the surrounding seven 'old' counties namely Herefordshire, Breconshire, Radnorshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire. As the Highest 18 Hole course in England, its free draining nature, the fantastic greens and links style play means that Kington Golf Course offers year round playability.
“If you enjoy seeing something different, you’ll remember Kington long after you've forgotten some of the championship links”. (Tom Doak: The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses Volume 1, 2014)

A good challenge
This is an interesting course and the highest in England. It was rather wet yesterday and windy on the top of the hills. The course was in good condition considering recent rain. The greens were true and a good speed but some of the fairways were unbelievably uneven making clean shots quite difficult when in the many hollows. You need to be quite fit as most holes go up or downhill. The clubhouse was friendly with good food and drinks.Reviewer Rating

Always Fantastic
This is now my 4th time here and it never disappoints. Great venue, all the staff are so friendly. Course as always was as good as you’ll find. Food and drinks were top drawer too. I cannot wait to return in November, think the weather may be a bit colder then…..As value for money goes I don’t believe you’ll find anything better.
As for the views as you play the course…..again you’ll struggle to find anything better.

Super views start to finish, great fun
Loved it start to finish. Accepted there has been a lot of work done to hollow-tine the greens and many tonnes of sand have been put on the greens......quite sure the result with be top notch greens....but not great today - but we accept that. I spoke to one of the pros who said they are fast (14) in summer, which sounds terrifying to me! I'll be back in the summer to see.So ignoring the bobbly/sandy greens my playing partner and I both agreed we'll return.
It's 1 hr 45 mins from Redditch where I live but i can see myself playing when virtually all the courses get closed/waterlogged in the winter - this will definitely not. The fairways are firmer than a links course.
The views are spectacular. My playing partner had his phone out for photos on every hole!
Not a long course but you need to be straight with the driver to avoid the ferns as you will not be finding that lost ball. Although there are no bunkers it's a real test of your short game with incredible run offs and steep banks around some greens. So I think this is a better test of golf than most parkland courses.
So go test your golfing skills!
We had a discounted round of £17 pp and enjoyed a buggy for £25, that was a good choice!

Breathtaking views with a course to match
Stunning course with a background vista to die for. We were very lucky to have good weather and little wind because if the elements were against you up here it would be a challenge. The course however is stunning with every approach into green requiring a precise shot as well as accuracy of the tee being rewarded. This is well worth the tripReviewer Rating

Great course and great views
Great course and great views ,with 360 panoramic scenes all around . Course was in great condition and greens ran true. Make a change from a standard flat course with lots of undulations where you have to play off a variety of slopes to test your skills .Skylarks are singing and the Redkites soaring above a wonderful challenging 18 holes.(Round played: Jun 2021 - Score: 101 Handicap: 22.8)

Slightly Disappointing
Played here October .2020.I don't know what it was but i was expecting something a little bit more .Make no mistake it's a good golf experience with it's elevated location & far reaching views & is something completely different to manicured parkland courses .However ,i played Church Stretton the day before which blew me away but this one didn't .
It felt a bit like a war of attrition with the wind .Overall , i think it was because of it being the highest course in England , while there were a couple of memorable holes , i was expecting there to be more & for me there were a few too many holes that were a bit forgettable .
Also, there were a few too may tees where we were playing off the ladies & despite teeing off late morning ,maybe we were just unlucky on that day but we had to wait on every shot from the 6th hole to the end .This was what i was trying to avoid when booking with the pro but he seemed a bit impatient when i was trying to establish times of play that wouldn't be busy .
There are no bunkers & with grassy hollows /craters around some greens ,with the wind as well ,they are just hard to hit ( i.e. the 9th & 12th ) .
Cosy clubhouse .
Overall ,with the views this was a good golf experience & i would say to anyone who hasn't played it to play it but for me having now played it & not living locally i'm not sure if i would make the effort to play it again .

Wow...Wow...Wow...
This was my first visit to Kington and boy am I glad I got the chance to play here. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere on and off the course. The course itself is one of the best I've had chance to play. Not a weak hole out there. The greens are as good as you will find. No bunkers but plenty of grass bunkers make getting up and down challenging in many different ways. This is definitely a course I will be returning to. Loved it.
