Considerably improved

The course has improved from its early season conditioning and the members are happy with the work being done by the hardworking ground staff. The greens are moving back to their excellent conditioning and the fairways have much more definition as the weather had improved enough to allow more cutting. Lots of good communication (and hard work) from the greens staff to the membership.Definitely back on track following a disappointing visit early in the year. Would definitely benefit from improved practice range facilities as they are now looking tired and do not compare favourably with others close by.

The only thing that let this round down was the pitch marks left on the greens come on people repair your pitch marks

Very Hot. Greens excellent. Run on the ball made the course so much shorter

Best Value by far, "Open quality greens"

Bone dry, but hey so is Carnoustie! and the rest of the UK. The greens are well irrigated though and although the tees need water the Pro told me that a new water system is now installed. Quality little Pro shop with sound advice. Great food after and beer was £3.50 a pint

Wish it were nearer

Really good course especially for the medium handicapper. Friendly atmosphere on and off the course with really good facilities. We organised a fund-raising recent there recently and the management couldn't have been more supportive. I just wish it were nearer where I live because its a club I would join.

Perfect set-up and varied layout

Lovely course in Derbyshire that is well set-up, well maintained and exceptionally welcoming to visitors making it a joy to play.

My only slight gripe is the opening few holes. The course starts with a hole where you need one leg longer than the other, the second is a blind tee short and the 3rd a uphill par 3 which is almost blind. For new visitors it is worth chatting with the Pro for inside tips or buying a strokesaver but once you have played you know what to expect.

The course overall is well laid out with a nice variety of holes, with varied undulations, well kept fairways and large true greens. This is a course well worth playing.

A MUST PLAY!

A fantastic course.
The layout is excellent with great use of water, trees & walls.
It was also in fantastic condition, greens true & bunkers OK.
Look for the 11th, 13th in particular, but there are no bad holes on this course.
Driving range on the side of a hill & they asked not to use woods, but a minor inconvenience.
Hotel good as well.

You lucky Horsley members!

Difficult to find a time when its not reserved for members, but finally came up with the Sunday afternoon idea. 2 of us come up from Leicester and for £17 had the best time on a "local" course for many a year Thanks to the Pro for telling us about this great rate and even the wives came along for afternoon tea and fizzy wine!
Me 90 my mate 89 so I had to write this review!
