What the club says: THE COURSE
Welcome to one of the best rounds of golf in the East Midlands. Horsley Lodge is a course that true golf-lovers keep coming back to. The owners have again made subtle but neat improvements for 2020: notably the picturesque signature hole and notoriously difficult 17th has become a Par 5, so making par more achievable to the majority of players. Regular visitors will notice better paths and greens surrounds. A number of tees have also been renovated during the winter break.

Located in Derby's popular golf triangle, travel 1 mile further than its local peers, to find Horsley Lodge and a true test of golf. Eighteen cleverly designed holes, most of them featuring water of some kind and stunning views.
The tree-lined fairways meander around some 180 acres of this wonderfully undulating, Derbyshire estate, with not a house or road in sight.

THE DESIGNER
World Champion Peter McEvoy designed here a really interesting layout, with each shot one to ponder. Heroes can go for it...mortals can play safe. A good shot or two and your onto the massive USGA standard undulating greens, which will require even more thinking about.

McEvoy also designed Fota Island & Powerscourt in Ireland and Horsley was built by the same team who constructed Loch Lomond and Valderrama. It is currently highest ranked and higest rated course in Derbyshire and East Midlands on this, and many other sites. Off-peak green fees are just £20 a round (early bird and twilight rate).

PROFESSIONAL
Horsley Lodge has a driving range, the golf shop manned for the past 12 years by the ever-present PGA Professional Kevin Lock. Always keen to offer any advice you need, Kevin and his Assistant Pros look forward to setting you up for a great round with advice, buggy, snacks or a few new golf balls. The pro shop is attached to the locker rooms and close to the car park and 1st tee

HOTEL & CLUBHOUSE:
The complex boasts an exceptional clubhouse with 12 uniquely designed bedrooms and two 3-storey cottages ideal for golf breaks in a highly rated hotel. ( 9.3 /10 on both hotels.com and booking.com).

THE BAR: As well as a club room for golfers only, and a golf bar with local real ales and cold lagers from around Europe, the Horsley Lodge restaurant on site has a menu that serves light bites for golfers and traditional English classics and steaks. Under Tom Williams, the Clubhouse Manager we aim to give service of an exceptional quality, missing at the more traditional clubs.

Handy too for the golfer, and open 6 days a week, is a "Halfway House" serving up hot and cold food, drinks and snacks.
General Manager, Richard Odell, who joined Horsley Lodge in 2018 from Sherwood Forest GC oversees operations here and is always available to hear your comments good or constructive!

Playing all year on Summer greens, suitable to all levels of golfer, this proprietory club owned and run by the same family for 30 years, now truly shows a true maturity in both course and clubhouse that belies its relatively youthful age.

Good value Play-and-Stay packages from around £100 per person per night* available in the unique 14 bedroom on-site hotel. (Check out our Tripadvisor!) or contact [email protected] * Bed, breakfast and a round of golf

If you've not played lately, a warm welcome and a great time awaits in 2020. Book on this site or

Great course slow going though

Great course but they put 2 balls in between 4 balls so from hole 2 an average 5-7 minutes wait per hole

The course was in great condition. Very well organised for us to play but expensive at ?35 each for a round. They obviously exploiting visitors after the lockdown was the only disappointment on the day as well as being unable to get in the 19th.

Amazing Course

The course was in perfect condition, including the fairways and greens.. Not to mention the water hazards.. In fact one of my golf balls enjoyed the course so much it decided to go for a swim on the 16th.. Very challenging with variations of holes. Perfect course with some excellent weather too..

Excellent Set Up

Very well presented course which presents a good challenge for the low handicapper. The greens were rolling well despite the recent weather before the lockdown. A friendly atmosphere with a decent pint in the 19th. I look forward to heading back to play once the course opens up again.

in My 2019 TOP 3

With all the rain , my course closed on a weekend, I thought I'd review on this site my favourites from last year.
Horsley rates very high on a lot of fronts: Greens in particular always a challenge as they are so damn big (last year not their fastest) Fairways lush and well cut, bunkers dry, pro shop small but friendly. Locker room a bit dated by todays standards buy a lovley welcome in the clubhouse which is open to the public but it didn't bother us. Definatly on our list for this year.....if it ever stops raining!

So impressed , I joined

When my club folded recently my wife and I played most courses in the North Notts / Derbyshire region.
What a feeling you get at Horsley Lodge, I wonder why more casuals don't know about this place. It will be a bit further to travel but we were so impressed with the layout and friendly welcome we practically joined on the spot.
Well done to the staff who convinced us to make the decision. We've since played each week and just love it

Disappointing

Had read good reviews however the greens were in terrible condition. Last of bare patches, was like putting on a ploughed field. Would not drive past such as Morley Hayes or Breadsall Priory to play here again, until the greens are sorted. The layout is great, pace of play, practice facilities, etc all great, but terrible greens at the moment. And quite a bit of construction ongoing around the course.

Excellent challenge

Course was in immaculate condition, greens running true and fairways nice and dry despite recent rainfall. Many stand out holes, including 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 16 and 17. Plenty of water hazards around to catch you out. Risk and reward options to consider, proper course management required. Nice food served post round. Driving range and putting green in very good condition for pre-round warm up. Excellent value for money on society deal.

A Different Class

4 of us had a great round. Tough test of golf this, but it's a really mature course now...the trees seem to have grown 20 ft. I've not played it for some time but the greens are true and the whole place has an air of understated quality. Exceptionally friendly staff in the clubhouse (something you never get at private clubs) always feel unwelcome at many of these!
Well done for the whole presentation from start to finish with a pint of Horsley Pale Ale what can be better on a September afternoon?
