What the club says: THE COURSE
Welcome to one of the best rounds of golf in the East Midlands. Horsley Lodge is a course that true golf-lovers keep coming back to. They have again made subtle but neat improvements recently: notably the picturesque signature hole and notoriously difficult 17th has now become a Par 5, so making par more achievable to the majority of players. Regular visitors will notice better paths and greens surrounds. A number of tees have also been renovated.
Located in Derby's popular golf triangle, travel 1 mile further than its local peers, to find Horsley Lodge and a true test of golf. Eighteen cleverly designed holes, most of them featuring water of some kind and stunning views. The tree-lined fairways meander around some 180 acres of this wonderfully undulating, Derbyshire estate, with not a house or road in sight.
THE DESIGNER
World Champion Peter McEvoy designed here a really interesting layout, with each shot one to ponder. Heroes can go for it...mortals can play safe. A good shot or two and your onto the massive USGA standard undulating greens, which will require even more thinking about.
McEvoy also designed Fota Island & Powerscourt in Ireland and Horsley was built by the same team who constructed Loch Lomond and Valderrama. It is currently highest ranked and higest rated course in Derbyshire and East Midlands on this, and many other sites. Off-peak green fees are just £20 a round (early bird and twilight rate).
PROFESSIONAL
Horsley Lodge has a driving range, the golf shop manned for the past 12 years by the ever-present PGA Professional Kevin Lock. Always keen to offer any advice you need, Kevin and his Assistant Pros look forward to setting you up for a great round with advice, buggy, snacks or a few new golf balls. The pro shop is attached to the locker rooms and close to the car park and 1st tee
NEW FOR 2020 .....A True "Golfers' Clubhouse and Hotel:
The complex boasts an exceptional clubhouse which since Covid is now a "members only" so visitors reading this will feel confident they are at a proper golf club with food and drink offerings priced to match. (Golfshake visitors are "Members for the Day") The clubhouse looks out onto the magnificant Par 3 9th providing an excellent gallery on the surrounding terraces.
Twelve uniquely designed bedrooms and two 3-storey cottages ideal for golf breaks in a highly rated hotel. ( 9.3 /10 on both hotels.com and booking.com).
THE BAR: In the new Clubhouse are 2 large flat screen TVs linked to Sky Sports, discounted golfers menu, and local real ales to sample and cold lagers from around Europe, food is traditional English classics and steaks.
Under Tom Williams, the Clubhouse Manager we aim to give service of an exceptional quality, missing at the more traditional clubs.
Handy too for the golfer, and open 6 days a week, is a "Halfway House" serving up hot and cold food, drinks and snacks. General Manager, Richard Odell, who joined Horsley Lodge in 2018 from Sherwood Forest GC oversees operations here and is always available to hear your comments good or constructive!
Playing all year on Summer greens, suitable to all levels of golfer, this proprietory club owned and run by the same family for 30 years, now truly shows a true maturity in both course and clubhouse that belies its relatively youthful age.
Good value Play-and-Stay packages from around £100 per person per night* available in the unique 14 bedroom on-site hotel. (Check out our Tripadvisor!) or contact [email protected]

Lovely setting, course was in great condition, but as always is very testing. The back 4 holes are very difficult and it is easy to drop shots. Mid round my driving went askew!

The course was in reasonable condition considering the amount of rain we have had lately.
Best to carry your clubs in the winter as the greens are roped off from about 50 yards out.
One downside was the pace of play, took over 4 hours to play 17, had to miss 18th out and we were a 2 ball.

beautiful course
immaculate condition, the course sits in the triangle of three clubs, Horsley, Morley Hayes, Breadsall Priory (2 courses), this is the cheapest (only by a couple of quid) and also the best in terms of course layout, condition and greens. The ninth up to the clubhouse balcony where the green is surrounded by 5 or 6 bunkers is a magnificent par 3.

Excellent Golf Day
Took part in their Open AmAm today. The course was in very good order, especially the greens which were fast and true. A credit to the greens staff. The volunteers that ran the event were friendly, welcoming and very efficient. From the white tees, the course is quite challenging, but nevertheless still enjoyable to play. The bar staff and pro shop were really friendly too. Well done to all concerned.

fantastic course
This is a beautiful course! great variety of holes and great quality of course. The greens were being cored and prepared and there were some temporary tee boxes in operation, but this did not take away from the enjoyment of this cracking course.
