What the club says: "Come and test your ability on one of the best courses in the East Midlands" Horsley is a course that any true golf-lover will want to go back to. You will find subtle but neat improvements in 2018 to the course and surrounds.

Located in the popular golf triangle just North of Derby, 1 mile from Morley Hayes and Breadsall Priory, Horsley Lodge remains a true test of golf, with 18 cleverly designed holes, most of them featuring water of some kind. Tree-lined fairways meander around some 180 acres of wonderfully undulating, Derbyshire countryside, with hardly a house in sight.
Horsley is a really interesting layout too, with each shot one to ponder. Heroes can go for it! Mortals can play safe. Once you reach the massive USGA standard undulating greens, all 18 of which will require even more thinking about.
Designed by former World Champion and Walker Cup captain, Peter McEvoy (also responsible for Fota Island & Powerscourt in Ireland) and built by the same team responsible for Loch Lomond and Valderrama, Horsley is currently highest ranked and higest rated course in Derbyshire and East Midlands on this, and many other sites. Off peak green fees just £18 a round.

Horsley Lodge has a driving range, a golf shop manned by the ever-present PGA Pro Kevin Lock, always keen to offer any advice you need.
The complex boasts an exceptional clubhouse with 14 uniquely designed bedrooms in a highly rated hotel, as well as a club room and golf bar and outstanding restaurant on site with a menu that serves tapas and pizza dishes along with more usual English classics and steaks. Under Tom Williams, the new Hotel and Clubhouse Manager you are ensured service of an exceptional quality.

Handy too for the golfer, and open 6 days a week, is a "Halfway House" serving up hot and cold food, drinks and snacks. NEW from March 2018 Draught beer in the Halfway House!

Playing all year on Summer greens, suitable to all levels of golfer, this proprietory club owned and run by the same family for 28 years, now truly shows a true maturity in both course and clubhouse that belies its relatively youthful age.

Green fees from just £18 twilight to £28 peak.(£34 Weekends)

Good value Play and stay packages from £107 per person available in the unique 14 bedroom on-site hotel. (Check out our Tripadvisor!)

If you've not been lately, a warm welcome and a great time awaits in 2018. Book on this site or

Most Helpful Review

I've only been playing a few months and this is the best course I've played as yet. Great setting with some fantastic holes. All the way round there are different challenges. Would well recommend.

winter golf

Enjoyable round.Greens a little bit bobbly as they have been left longer than usual due to recent inclement weather. Usually excellent but recent work has had its effect. Some fairways wet and soggy but no surprise given recent bad weather.Few inland courses still using summer greens.Worth a visit. - Nov 25 2017

Wish it were nearer
Really good course especially for the medium handicapper. Friendly atmosphere on and off the course with really good facilities. We organised a fund-raising recent there recently and the management couldn't have been more supportive. I just wish it were nearer where I live because its a club I would join.

GREAT WINTER GOLF
It was cold , it was November but this is an amazing golfing experience at any time of year.
Dry underfoot and nice pace of play for a Wednesday. We had a buggy a bacon cob and I think it was under £25 a head....BARGAIN!!
We travelled from Sheffield and its worth the trip. Great Pro, nice and friendly, range and putting green. Would recommend the bar too. £3.60 to 4.00 a pint

Perfect set-up and varied layout
Lovely course in Derbyshire that is well set-up, well maintained and exceptionally welcoming to visitors making it a joy to play.

My only slight gripe is the opening few holes. The course starts with a hole where you need one leg longer than the other, the second is a blind tee short and the 3rd a uphill par 3 which is almost blind. For new visitors it is worth chatting with the Pro for inside tips or buying a strokesaver but once you have played you know what to expect.

The course overall is well laid out with a nice variety of holes, with varied undulations, well kept fairways and large true greens. This is a course well worth playing.
