First time we have played this course & I'm glad that we went.

There are a lot of negative reviews about this course which I personally think are unfair. Admittedly the course isn't in the same condition as St Andrews, but you aren't paying £100+ per round !!.

Me and my wife both played 18 holes and had a roast beef dinner for only £30 in total. I play off a 15 hcp and enjoyed every minute of this course, additionally, the meal and the beer were both excellent.

The course had wide and forgiving fairways and the greens were well protected with either water hazards or grass 'bunkers'. Make sure you take a course map with you if it's your first time or you'll definitely end up lost!

Overall a fantastic day for us, the golf, food, drink and service were all great and we will definitely be back.

A very entertaining golf course. A lot of ponds makes for a hard game beware! Enjoyable day course in good condition. Meal and service was great. Very friendly atmosphere.

They're currently building a beautiful clubhouse, but that is about the only good thing about this so called "country club". Admittedly its only £10 a round, but I wouldn't play this course for free. Tiny, appalling greens and stupidly narrow fairways makes it feel like your playing on a couple of football pitches and the greenkeepers only seem to drive around on lawnmowers despite the fairways being rough length. The drainage is shocking, and those 70 "bunkers" advertised on the website have no sand at all, just filled with rain water. All those so called water hazards look disgusting and both a high and low handicapper would struggle to shoot any kind of round worth mentioning. Find a field nearby and hit a few drives in that, because it would certainly be a better condition "country club" than Horncastle Golf Club.

Not impressed

Course in need of considerable attention, this must have been a lovely course at some time.
Fairways full of cut grass which "hides" golf ball
Greens patchy and full of moss
Lack of direction signs to next hole etc

Could be a nice course but desparate for a bit of TLC. We like it but

We have been a good few times but is not getting the attention it needs, will be putting people off going in current state!

Course not in good condition at the moment as the crows have dug up a lot of the fairways looking for worms and it is quite bad. The greens are long and slow for putting but hard for chipping or holding.
I am just playing this course at the moment to keep my swing in.

Played Horncastle 14th April. I agree with some comments regarding course conditions. This course was only taken over by new owners in February this year having been neglected for some time by the previous owner.( 3 Toro cutting machines rusting by the greenkeepers shed) The new owners have plans to reverse this neglect and deserve support to enable them to improve conditions on what is potentially an interesting layout. All it requires is tlc and time. Help them out and give it a go. If golfers do not support this type of enterprise then it will become just another statistic on the list. The food and clubhouse welcome were both excellent and the clubhouse itself was very good. £10 for a round midweek won't break the bank .

Played on a Groupon so great value. stunning fairways. greens were horrendous, looked like they hadn't seen water for weeks and were cracking in every direction. Course layout was a bit hectic, crossing other fairways to get between greens and tees. I would like to go back if the greens were as nice as the fairways!
