Very enjoyable round, the course is in the best condition I have seen it for a long time. Great value for money and the food is excellent. Staff and members I met very friendly.

A beautiful course and in great shape. I understand the owners have spent over £250k on improvements and it shows. Still very fairly priced. We had breakfast with golf And a lovely Sunday roast for £19. Members are very friendly. Safe to say any previous faults have been rectified. Will highly recommend it to anyone who likes a challenge!

I've just joined this club, nice atmosphere and a good place for high handicappers to play and not feel like they are being ridiculed. Price of a round/membership reflects the basic nature, but for me, this is exactly what I need. For the price of membership here, I can play regularly here and enjoy a round or too elsewhere. V friendly!

Firstly, the greens are hard. However, the chap in the clubhouse spoke at length about how they are combatting this. This is a lovely little club, it is NOT an easy course by any stretch. I'd like to see some sand in the bunkers but apart from that, I think it's a super course and deserves support. Will definitely be back!

I played the course late june 2014. Grass cutting machinery had been out of action for a little while so fairways a little long, but perfectly playable. Greens in pretty good condition and the course was very enjoyable to play. Unfortunately SIM (the owner?) had been called away to a family crisis so no one was available to cook. However we were made very welcome by the staff and person standing in and by the members we met during the round. Staff had just started cutting all the grass again and it is certainly a course I would enjoy playing again. Need to be fairly straight as lots of tree lined fairways and water hazards including one bunker with water and ducks swimming in it ;-), plus other normal water hazards. I can't recall seeing any sand bunkers, all grass bunkers. Very good value for money.

Played 21.9.13. After phoning the previous Thursday to ensure 2 fore 1 vouchers can be used on the Saturday and book a tee time, you can imagine my angst to be told by a different member of staff that they couldn't be used. To be fair to the member of staff, once he found out that we had driven an hour and a half to get there he let us use them. Then we got told that there were 15 members of a society teeing off in my booked tee slot!! Again, kudos to the same member of staff as he offered us to start from Hole 10 and do the back 9 first, which we did.

The course, very tight and probably 6 holes too many for the space available. Greens were very poor and could have used a lot more sign age to show where to go next. Or even signs that can be read. Lots of water and would have liked to see sand in some of the bunkers.

It seems to me that all available funds have been spent on the upgrade of the clubhouse to the detriment to the course.

Score by the way 104 gross 28 handicap.

Me and a friend played here today on a Groupon offer. The deal was a bacon sandwich, 18 holes and then Pie, chips and peas for £19. The food was decent, the course was not. I accept that this has been a very wet year but parts of the course are very boggy and I mean boggy. In reality I don't think that the course should really have been open there was that much water. Green bunkers had become ponds and there was so water around the 18th green that you would have thought that the front was guarded by a pond. The quality of the greens was reasonable and the same could be said for the fairways. However you need to take plenty of balls to play at the moment as the ground is covered with autumn leaves and even a well struck shot down the fairway can result in a lost ball or ages trying to find the needle in the haystack.

This might be an interesting course to play in a dry summer but it's not fun at the moment. They also need to change the signage because what used to be the club house no longer is despite the signs indicating otherwise.

We would not play there again but I can accept that some people might like it. The fact that it only apparently has a 100 or so members might speak volumes for what the locals think.

We as a four ball on a Groupon promotion played this course on Friday 21st. The first thing to say is this is NOT a championship course and to call it a Golf and country club is I believe over egging the cake, yes there is a mobile caravan park with a fishing lake nearby, but that's not we went for or maybe what you want to know. The club house is new being compact but we received a warm welcome. The Pro shop was a little counter with a very limited selection of stock. We were given both a score card and a colour course planner on a A4 piece of paper that we found very helpful. We had a meal of pie, chips and carrots, the pie was very nice.
Now the course, being 5477 in length, par 69/70 depending if you play off the Yellow or the White tees. 5 par 3's ranging from 131 yards to 208 yards. 2/3 par 5's all around 450 yards. The par 4's range from 267yards to 437 yards with 4 being less than 300 yards. The course has a large number of mature trees lining the fairways that were very well kept. This also applied to the greens. I play a lot of high profile golf courses and this course on the day I went was as good as any I have played this year. Water was also in play on 14 of the holes. Full 7 day Membership is £335 per year. What did we think. Well, I wish we had this facility in Nottinghamshire. I would join this club solely for the perfect on course practice opportunities playing a round offers. As we all know the short game is what we all have to work on and this is exactly what is offered, you can try driving the greens an the short par 4's but beware the fairways are mainly tight and tree lined with as mentioned water in play on most. 3 wood or long iron's off the tee's with shot irons into small if not postage stamp greens with banks around many present a interesting challenge to help sharpen your short game. No one would say Horncastle come any wear near Woodhall Spa that is just down the road, everyone would say it is not in the same league and to be honest it is not intended to be but and it is a VERY BIG BUTif you play this course regularly and use it as a practice facility you WILL lower your handicap. I have played all around the country and I can honestly say I have never played a course that offers this opportunity to improve your game. Please give it a try and look at it in respect of developing your game and not as a competition course.

It is a good test of golf.from tee to green not bad but the greens need looking at they just will not hold a ball and it is tough to chip and run because 14 holes have water..... and aprons need to be intrerduced on most holes.....fair ways look like they have not been cut for a few days and mole hill need knocking down.sort this out and it would be a top course...and we would come back.

Really good value for money, our group thoroughly enjoyed playing this course- very difficult to play to our handicap with all the hazards! Had a meal in the country club after- again good value for money. Only criticism is that the clubhouse on the course wasn't open- would have been far handier, but was informed it will be open end of july- we will definitely be returning then!

I have played this course many times and I have thoroughly enjoyed every game. The new clubhouse looks amazing and the staff are always very kind and helpful which is the main reason I enjoy my visits to Horncastle Golf Club - they do like to make you laugh!

The most challenging hole has to be "Dickie's Dilemma" which is the 17th hole - however I find my swift nine iron does the trick!

My advice would be not to knock it, until you've tried it as Horncastle Golf Club is developing into a fantastic course and the new clubhouse will do wonders for this company....I've already booked my next tee time!
