Underwhelmed

The idea of playing in royal grounds is an exciting prospect, but that really was about it. Clubhouse was closed so check in was done at a mobile cafe. Course was very flat, with not an awful lot of challenging holes. Nice to see the deer wandering round and a good view of the palace from the 5th green, but I’m afraid that’s about all I will remember.

Great setting not matched by standard of course

Beautiful setting but let down badly by really poor fairways. The greens and tee areas were pretty good but fairways were badly damaged and looked after in general. I would not have minded too much but at ?50 per round I expected better.

Unfortunately the course was in terrible condition, the fairways are almost completely lacking any grass!

For this time of year I was expecting the course to be in much better condition. Fairways were hard and patchy and the greens were inconsistent. Bunkers were hard packed and what sand there was, was not good quality. It's a shame because I played this course about 6 years ago and had great memories. Positives were that the staff and facilities were good, the grass driving range was also a nice touch. I would recommend this to others to play as a one off, purely because of the setting.

For the price there are a lot better courses out there. Found it a bit boring and samey all the way round.

Played here at the end of September.

The grounds, clubhouse etc all very nice. Course is very much a game of two halves. More of a parkland course from 9 and links on the back 9.

Some holes require a little thought as they dogleft, but many are generally quite straight. Some well positioned bunkers on some holes make you think a little more.

However, the fairways were in a terrible condition and many shots are played from hard dirt, deer spit or deer shit. Whilst lower handicappers will be able to play from hard dirt easier, us higher handicappers tend to find it harder.

For the money they charge I woulnd't bother with here again.

Thanks to the recent sunny weather the course was exceptionally dry, with very little sign of the colour green across the course. I'm guessing I didn't see it at its best. That said, a lot of other courses have handled the weather for better than this one.

I was told by my playing partners that Hampton Court Palace looks a far better course during normal British weather, but I found it very flat and featureless. On a lot of the holes the fairways just seem to be made up by cutting a route through a mass of long grass.

The greens certainly weren't the best I've played on this year, and the bunkers had barely any sand in them.

This isn't a course I will be rushing back to, and I certainly don't think anyone paying full price for their green fee would be getting value for money.
