What the club says: Both our championship courses were designed by Robert E Cupp, one of Jack Nicklaus’s course architects. The East Course was specifically designed with championship golf in mind. Measuring 7138 yards from the gold tees, this is a formidable test of golf. Unlike the West, the East has two loops of nine holes bringing you back to the Clubhouse after each nine. The West Course was formally known as ‘The Members Course’,and is often regarded as the more scenic of the two courses, but is certainly tighter and more undulating. Surprisingly at 7154 yards it is slightly longer than the East.

Great Society venue
We stayed as a group over the Ryder Cup weekend. It was a good golfing and social atmosphere throughout and the full board food offering was good. Our only critici sm was the old style flat TVs - these should have been replaced for such a golf watching weekend. The screens were too small and poor resolution. The two courses are an excellent choice for a Society, not too long off the white tees, and the rough was cut back providing plenty of room off the tees. Greens very good.Reviewer Rating

Nice course
We played the East course and then the West. The east course was very dry, with the ball bouncing around. The greens were heavily watered and green, but also fast. We had heavy rain prior to playing the west course, which made the fairways softer, helping to keep the ball in play, this made the greens slower and more receptive. The hotel and food are excellent and the drinks are pub prices, depending where you live.Reviewer Rating

Golf courses are in terrible condition. Very bad service for the very big price. We just had our society day at East course and on top of bone dry course we had very bad dinner service. Once great place turned in to disaster…Reviewer Rating

Golf Society Day
We were recommended to play the ESNGC and decided to add it to our 2024 tour. It was always difficult to speak to the correct person but eventually did get it booked up along with a bacon roll breakfast. We had to pay the balance a long time in advance and beware if you do as they offer no refunds in the event that your golf day doesn't go ahead (your fault or theirs) pay very close attention to the T&C's that they make you sign that form your event contract.Anyway when we first arrived on the day it was difficult to find anyone to speak to about the booking but eventually found a guy in the GC bar area who pointed towards a couple of tables in a darkened room. Whilst we were eating our breakfast the same guy popped back to advise us that the bar would be shut after our round so we would have to use the main hotel bar.
Some of us then went to use the practice range to loosen and warm up prior to playing only to be told the practice ground was shut for an hour. A couple of our players who had booked trollies and buggies went to get their token / ticket only to be informed by the pro-shop that due to the late tee time we had been given meant that the buggy/trolley office would be shut by the time the equipment was returned, bearing in mind they gave us the tee time and then proceeded to take bookings for buggies and trollies, I find this unacceptable.
The course was not in the best of conditions and is of a poor standard when compared to other venues such as Woldingham GC, Redlibbets GC to name but a few.
Once our round was complete we ventured into the hotel bar for post match drinks and to have our small award presentation and found ourselves in the middle of some sort of party/event with couples in dinner suits and evening dresses who were all a bit put out that golfers were using the hotel amenities rather than the GC facilities.
We felt as a whole that the experience was all a bit of a let down and felt we paid over £2,200.00 only to made to feel unwelcome.
We have decided to scrub this venue from our 2025 tour and all future years also.

West Course
I played with a friend who is a member. I am a new player so keep that in mind as this shapes my opinion. I managed to score 99 so very happy with that. The course is very challenging and very scenic. Way more undulation compared to what I was used to up until playing here. Tees/greens were all in great condition. The back 9 greens looked like they had been cut recently as the grass was very short and was running faster than the front 9. A few fairways had ground under repair but there wasn't anything that I noticed that would massively impact. I personally found the bunkers a big challenge but they are a great test to get out of. The clubhouse was closed after our round which was a shame. we played at 4pm on a Sunday so we were back at the club house at around 7:45ish.. our Overall a lovely course and I will be back to play again.Reviewer Rating

East Course
Played East on a Sunday and West on Monday, Course in very good condition. A little slow as we were a 2 ball and many 4 balls however people kindly let us play through. If anything the West course was harder and perhaps a more enjoyable course to play. Would recommend to low handicappersReviewer Rating

Six hour rounds!
Two rounds of golf that took nearly 6 Hours each! This spolit our visit.* Something is wrong with booking admin, when it allows multiple, 4-ball, groups of geriatric, very high handicap 'golfers' to tee-off in consecutive groups in the middle of the day, thus grinding play to a virtual halt
* There are marshalls, but no attempt made to manage the logjam by touring the course by buggy and intervening
* Why is it not possible to allocate slow moving high handicap groups the post 3pm twilight tee times?

Had a 4 ball voucher valid until the end of Oct 2023 which the Pro was not prepared to extend until Spring 2024 so I could use a buggy on the fairways, rather than using the paths; I can’t walk far these days.Reviewer Rating
