Overated

Yes, this course is very well kept, has fast and true greens and offers great variety. However, having played both courses a handful of times, I would say that there are plenty of other courses locally that offer a much better experience for the money that you pay for a green fee here. Theres nothing special that you take away from the end of your round that is particularly memorable. Looking back at my round no holes stand out, just a load of quite long par 4's come to the front of my mind. I think the golf courses are massively hyped and feel that if either course stood alone as its own course and without the massive hotel, it would be a very average course. It felt to me that the only reason there is this hype about the course is that it has had a lot of money pumped into it.

This course feels very corporate and sadly doesn't reflect the beautiful countryside of East Sussex. One round here is fun and worth doing however I would urge you to look at other courses nearby especially Piltdown (a much more challenging, better kept and interesting golf course) and Lewes that offer a more personal and memorable round for a fraction of the price.

By far and away the better course of the 2 at the same venue. 15 great holes with the pick being the ones across (under) the road. Wonderful mature oak trees line most holes with water hazards used very well on a number. Great club house facilities with the history of European opens held there adding to the atmosphere. Bag drop off / pick up cleaning service a nice touch. Will definitely return as soon as possible.

Trying to be something it’s not

I’ve played at ESN many times and enjoy the courses but it’s clinging onto the fact it hosted some European tour events 30 years ago and still thinking they can charge £££ for average condition golf courses however today I encountered rules I thought were long gone in golf. I arrived with my 14 year old daughter who is now showing an interest in golf so I thought we’d go to the range at ESN and maybe use the excellent practice facilities. I went into the pro shop to buy a token and was looked up and down and told I had to be wearing proper golf attire to use the range?! I was wearing a t-shirt and golf shorts but apparently for ESN that’s not good enough. When I asked why I was told ‘that’s the rules’ in a way that’s suggests that’s common practice for any driving range. I’ve played golf all over the world at some excellent venues and NEVER heard of that. I played at Gleneagles last week and used the range whilst wearing a similar outfit and they couldn’t have been more friendly yet this time pot dinosaur of a club doesn’t want to promote golf as a fun, relaxed sport for everyone, it wants to think this is still the 1970s and we should all be wearing plus 4’s and jackets. Such a shame I wasn’t allowed to practice with my daughter. I will never go back.

Always a good place to play - Generally good condition but my only criticism is there were a great deal of divots all over the course which if the players are not going to replace than the green staff certainly should.

Top course and facilities, only down fall was a bit of a poor greeting at bag drop where the guy told us what we cant do, almost told us off, rather then a nice warming welcome which you'd expect. Other then that both courses really nice.

Played East and West courses on golf day, both quite different but both superb. East course gives slightly larger landing areas and more 'stadium' feel. Buggy recommended!

Outstanding Course

What a great course, in briliant condition. very unforgiving if you go off the fairway. the greens and all well protected and the pin positions on the round were very difficult. The club house and service is excellent and food and drink reasonably priced.

East is least (harsh!), West is best

This is a very nice course in its own right but when set against it's sister West course, it loses hands down I'm afraid!
Definitely worth playing though and it's very nice, particularly the back nine but if you're playing one or the other then go for the West.
Even consecutive birdies here on 10 and 11 didn't change my mind!
Greens very good though and the venue overall is top notch as a golf resort.

East Sussex National

The course layout is excellent, however the course was disappointing. The greens were inconsistent and the fairways were bare. Bunkers were in good condition. Hospitality was ok although drinks were expensive. Seems the desire to get maximum number of golfers out on course has had a big impact on the quality of the course

course ok resort awful

We went for the all inclusive golf and dinner option. On arrival the room was not very clean, balcony was filthy with huge cobwebs, and a filthy table.

Dinner was the worst resort dinner i have ever experienced. Three mains to choose from braised beef and mash, pasta and a mushroom sauce and the smallest piece of fish with over cooked vegetables - we gave it back. Dessert had ice cream which was made from powder - we gave it back. The contents of the meals could not have cost more than £2.5

We asked to se the restaurant manager who was apparently busy but would come soon to see us , we finally left when he did not show up and though we left our room number for him to contact us we were never contacted.

We managed to negotiate to skip dinner the second day in exchange for a burger and a sandwich. Hardly a great deal for us , but i would never try dinner there again.

Front of house staff were very friendly,

Course was a good layout , but needed some TLC, bare fairways and rough meant we played prefer lies in June.

Overall a really poor place to go......

Weekend Break

Our annual break to ESN was booked when Lockdown was lifted. Despite only being able to get late tee times for Saturday and sunday we felt the previous visits where we were very impressed warranted this irritation. Leading up to our weekend we did try and get earlier times but were firmly told "We are fully booked". We decided to get there at 11am on the Saturday and have Lunch before we checked in and played. when trying to check in we were told there was no booking on the system but luckily we had the paper work to prove otherwise, at this point we were told they had had a system problem were they had lost some Bookings :-(
The East course greens were poor by ESN standards and the rough was thick and juicy. On many holes there was no semi rough which made the course even more challenging. The west course was the same other than the greens were in Better condition.
if you have been here before you might be a little disappointed if its your first time you might not be overly impressed.
finally, the staff were not back to there best and seemed a bit slow on a few occasions

Great challenge for higher handicappers

Played the East course twice over the weekend and really enjoyed the course. The greens were a little inconsistent having been recently spiked but assume this is not the normal condition you?d expect.
We did find the pro shop staff not to be the most welcoming and hotel staff were a little disorganised but then it was the first weekend after lockdown so expect they just need to get back into the swing of things.
Excellent practice areas, with separate greens for putting, chipping and putting and approach play, along with a full driving range.
