What the club says: The course is a challenging heathland/woodland combination made up of 10 holes which were opened between 1976 and 1984, and 8 which have been in existence since 1903 and possibly earlier - albeit with modifications made by James Braid in the 1930s and by Bill Cox in the early 1980s.
The length of the Course at 6435 yards, coupled with its overall difficulty, make its Par and Standard Scratch Score of 71 hard to achieve except for the very best of players.

Lush!
Haven’t played this course since 2018. Really enjoyed it. Some maintenance work going on around holes 5 & 6. The greens were the best I’ve played on this year. Tee boxes were immaculate as well. Fairways need a bit of TLC in places but most places are the same after the weather we’ve had this year. Lovely clubhouse & staff very friendly. Will be back soonHandicap: 12.8

Well worth a visit
An interesting course set in the heart of East Sussex with easy access from main roads. Easy walking with mainly tree lined but generous fairways. Greens true and in excellent condition. Would definitely play again.Reviewer Rating

Generally good
The course is an excellent challenge. Tees and Greens in great condition and it looks like the club is undergoing course works. The one let down though is the state of the fairways,. Granted it's been a dry summer, but I have played a lot of courses this year and these are probably some of the shortest and most barren fairways I have played on. Costs the course three points on my score.Reviewer Rating

Nice course, well maintained
Nice course, quite flat but with interesting layout. Nice to have trees but easy to find wayward balls because the rough is well trimmed!Reviewer Rating

Much improved
Copthorne has a strange layout, with a mojor road crossing after the first hole and then holes that criss-cross each other. This adds considerable interest and challenges. After some rain, the course has greened up magnificently. The road network makes it easy to get to.Reviewer Rating

Always a challenge
I have played Copthorne a number of times and it is always a good challenge. It does suffer in the wet conditions - more than most courses - but on it's day a complete pleasure to play.Reviewer Rating

Classic quality course
Booked discounted rate online otherwise quite expensive green fee. Very nice layout. Tree-lined so straight driving required. Rough not too bad so balls usually findable but chipping out a useful skill to have here! Greens excellent. Staff friendly and accommodating. Nice beer selection in bar

What a difference a year makes.
Played last year in the long hot spell and vowed to come back when the course was greener and in better condition. Not disappointed with the course, very disappointed however with my golf that did not do the course justice.
I always feel one of the signs of a good course is that you can remember the majority of the holes as they are all different. Copthorne does fill this criteria in spades.
It is a course you do either need to play several times to tame it or have a very good course guide on your GPS as there are several ditches and streams around to catch the unwary.
All aspects of the course were very good, tees, bunkers and greens were all in great condition.
The greens were devilish fast when we played have some ‘interesting’ borrows and undulations to test your putting.
Good service in the pro shop. Very good bacon butty to start but have to say disappointing Scampi and Chips for lunch. No veg or salad and suspect cooking oil not hot enough. But I am being really picky!
Good practice facilities but some are across the road from the clubhouse.
Cannot wait to play it again next year on my golf tour.

Hidden gem
Haven't played here for @ 4 yrs but course as always immaculately kept. Notice a number of trees ben removed and the Rhodadendrums, but still tight and with lots of character. Shame about the cost on a Bank Holiday afternoon. Would like to come back soon.(Round played: May 2019 - Score: 90 Handicap: 16.6)

A decently kept course and provided a few challenges along the way, particularly as the course layout has apparently changed and the GPS watches were of no use whatsoever. Still an enjoyable outingReviewer Rating

good course
A longish course with lots of tree lined fairways. Consequently lots of leaves on fairways and greens. But for time of year is normal. There were several staff with leaf blowers to clear as much as possible. Worth a play if in the area.(Round played: Nov 2018 - Score: 95 Handicap: 19.4)
