Play this course and keep it open. Lovely course used to be busiest in Europe. Local Council are trying to close it.

I have played golf here now for 15 years and can't believe the Council have now decided the close the course - the only public 18 hole golf course in inner London! It is a wonderful place for beginners, and has a mixed membership of all colours, ages and abilities. The course and facilities have been allowed to fester as a precursor to closure - but this still could be a money making venture for the council. Anyone reading this please join the fight to save it at:

I have only been playing since last summer and have played quite a few courses round kent and i must say i enjoyed playing Beckenham more than any other. The great thing about Beckenham for me is that every time ive played there ive always met great people and the course has always managed to throw something new at me. The greens i must admit are a little hard to read but this for me just adds to the challenge. If your looking for a mid week game this is a great place to play as its never that busy and for the price £8.45 (Twighlight form 12 midday winter) you cant complain at all. Saturday and Sunday is really packed so best to play mid-week.

Having only just started to play i really have enjoyed every round ive played at Beckenham. The thing i like most is ive always found something new each time ive played there. The greens are a little hard to judge but overall a well looked after course. Would really recommend golfers of all standards to try it. Really looking forward to my next round here.

Beckenham is ok for the golfer that likes a quick round without fuzz in the middle of London. Etiquette is not enforced so the golfer that has a traditional approach: Don't GO!!
It can be sometimes overpriced on weekends for what the facilites offer.

Been going to the park since 1956 when steam trains
Ran through the park. The course used to be very popular, get a number Sunday morning go back later to play. Needs some attention these days.
Henry Cotton used to be the club pro.
Shame the Homestead burnt down. So many memories, hearing the clock chime out at night.
So shame on you Lewisham Council for closing
This unique golf course.

Sad to hear this is closing. I grew up learning to play golf here over 25 years ago. There used to be a queue running to the house off the first tee. You literally had 50 people watching you fluff it onto the second green at times. Not sure if less people playing golf now is the main reason. Obviously the condition would have put some people off, but its perfect for a beginner or someone local who doesn't want to go miles for a public course. Yes the condition isn't great and its a rip off to pay full price, but would be sad to see it go. Its got character a lot of course lack, with the park and house backdrop.
