That said, the bar in the 'club house' is well stocked but the same can't be said for the Pro Shop where prices are inevitably high.
The green fees are also quite steep, especially if you throw in a powered trolley or buggy ... and one word of warning: don't expect to turn up on the first tee and fire off with just yourself, or the two or even three of you ... they go to great efforts to fully stack the tees with 4 or more players even if you have book a time for say just two ! Mind you, it's a nice way to expand your linguistic skills. Last time I stayed I ended up playing with lots of different people from the Scandinavian countries so that wasn't so bad LOL
In addition to the course there is a practice are for both driving and putting which is very well maintained.
Now ... the serious stuff about the course.
General comments: due to flooding from run-off from the mountains, the course was down to 16 holes ... but I believe it has now been returned to a full 18 holes.
The bunkers, despite the weather and daily watering are like concrete so forget any of that cultured stuff ... dig your feet in, and hold on !
The greens are generally very well kept with few problems or spike marks. Pitching marks on the other hand are always an issue as for some reason which I do not understand, some people simply can't be bothered to repair them ! On average the greens tend to run quite fast ... but are sometimes quite variable across the length of the course. Flag placements are usually 'challenging' and are changed every 2 or 3 days usually.
Usual Jack Nicklaus design ... very 'American' in feel and play ... wide fairways, some sand and some water ... all of which are strategically placed to catch the bold or careless player.
There isn't too much rough, but what there is, is long and clinging ... so stay well clear !
Course generally plays 'left to right' but there are the obvious exclusions to the rule and there are several walkways where you have to cross the roads which weave in and around the course/resort.
If you are going to play here in the high season, then make sure you carry plenty of water and WEAR A HAT and use plenty of sun screen; otherwise you won't be fit for your next round in a couple of days !!! Incidentally, this course is part of the Jack Nicklaus Trail which includes 5 other local courses all of which are within easy striking distance. The course also provide transport to and from other courses (by prior arrangement) and you can book for any of the 6 courses at any of the pro shops on any course.
You can get full details of any of the 6 course here at, http://www.jacknicklausgolftrail.com/
The
resort at La Torre also offers wide opportunities for self catering in the for of apartment and Villa rentals; either through agents or directly with the owners through their own personal web sites or Facebook pages.
Due to the 'nearness' of the villas and apartments, there are quite a few areas on the course which have high netting erected to stop wayward ball strikes from plunging through someone's window but it does not detract from the playing experience at all.
All-in-all, a round of golf here is a most enjoyable way to spend some time.

Having said all this, what a fantastic experience to play on a course designed by Jack Nicklaus, on a stunning day in Spain. It does not get much better.
The facilities are also excellent with a first class clubhouse, lots of places to stop

But this is not the problem. Around the fairways there is about 2 metres of semi and then you are in to a type of rough where you will NOT find your ball. It is made up of a sort of mini-pampas grass - 'heads' of long grass in clumps which flop outwards from the centre and create an umbrella of cover about 1 metre wide. These are then spaced so that they are just about touching. Irritating to lose so many balls and drop so many shots.
The greens are excellent and run true over their many undulations.
If you stay at the resort you get a reduced green fee.

Needs attention
Don’t waste your money playing this course, the “pro shop” is in the buggy shack, the tees are not maintained, no 1st or 2nd cut on fairways, water features are stagnant and bunkers not raked. Greens are ok but nothing to write home about. Go to Roda, El Valle etc, same price and much much better.Reviewer Rating

Great course
One of a few good courses in the area. Testing layout, interesting holes and good for all handicaps. Bit of a walk to the 1st tee to check in due to covid restrictions but well worth itReviewer Rating

Nice Layout, plenty of sand and water hazards
Course has a lot of well planned bunkers around the greens and on the fairways that need good course management. Water hazards on 3,9 and 11 put you under pressure.Reviewer Rating

Nice course, but far too many bunkers
My bunker play got a really good workout - far too many, but I suppose sand is cheaper to keep than grass.(Round played: May 2019 - Score: 90 Handicap: 19.9)

There are plenty of bunkers around though and a reasonable amount of holes with water so what it lacks in length is compensated for in a good defence and it's still tough to score well.
Definitely worth a round as part of a tour of the local area.
