This course is in terrible condition. I have never seen fairways in as bad condition as this before in my life! There is hardly any grass on the fairways, it's like playing from mud no matter where your ball comes to rest. The photos of the fairways on the website or Google are in no way alike to the what the course is actually like for real. There is more grass on a rugby pitch after it's been chewed up by a Sunday league team than there is on this course.
Dont waste your time, play elsewhere. Even Shrivenham Park Golf Club is in better condition and that's hard to believe but true!
Furthermore, at peak times they are charging £35 for 18 holes!! Ridiculous! for that money you could play at Bowood House, The players or The Kendleshire....Proper golf courses!

Six of us arrived for our annual golf event, but only 3 played, Only trolleys with hedgehog tyres were allowed no battery trolleys and no buggies. Our 3 elder golfers did not wish to take the risk of renting pull trolleys with the strange orange wheels. Being one of the 3 who played the course was sodden wet in areas whilst wet in others, greens were slow as was to be expected due to wetness. As to the 3 non players they enjoyed bacon rolls and even stumped out £1.10 each for a tea bag in a cup!!! Talking to members the club is fairly newand the comment which remains with me "what they dont get in membership fees they get in competition fees or tea/coffee" I doubt very much if we shall return next year

A good score here does not reflect how the golf was. This is a beginners course. Unfortunately there is no slope (course grading) system in UK meaning the low handicap golfers at South Cerney will never be able to play to handicap on a good course. Cheap round of golf but definitely not worth the money.
P.S For a course advertising good drainage why is it a must to have embarrassing "hedgehog wheels?

Played on Sunday, nice coffee , bacon and egg bap to start.
1st nine holes bit of an up and down direction. Back 9 holes better challenge and layout. Queued after 3 rd hole which continued for the rest of the round. Would we play there again, probably not.

Nice setting

This course is set in a very nice part of the country. But the course does not live up expectations. Greens, bunkers and most of tees are good but some of the fairways are poor and the course just wasn't that interesting. A shame as it was such a nice day. Also in comparison to 'home' courses, was on the expensive side for a Visitor - but other courses in the area were also on the pricey side.

I used south Cerney online system to book, very easy and quick, but this is where it goes downhill.....we arrived early for our t time hoping for breakfast but were told all we could have was a sausage roll or an out of date packet of crisps for30p!!! No discount was given for the 18 holes even though there were 5 temp greens and the course was sodden. This course did play quite well although very wet.

I arrived back to the club and realised the service still hadn't improved, only 1 member of staff was available to serve on what seemed a busy club day. After 10 minutes we were informed there were no draught beers, we would of liked to of stayed but were forced to leave due to no sport being on television and ended up at the Watermark a couple of miles away to enjoy a cold beer and the match.

Informed on phone no need to book a tee time when we arrived had to book a tee time and wait over an hour to tee off. Shop staff rude/ignorant when I informed him of phone call. Bar staff very pleasant. Some greens poor design severe slope very quick, all greens bobbly. Would not wish to be a member and visitors fees are too expensive no matter how much they charge. Good walk spoiled.

The course is in good condition overall with the fairways and light rough well maintained. The greens are in good shape but it's a shame more players don't repair their pitch marks. The only slight complaint is that the tee boxes could be levelled out more to reduce the undulations.

Widest Fairways Ever

The day I played here the greens had just been treated, so maybe they weren't as good as I imagine they will be. The rest of the course was in pretty decent condition given the amount of rain we've had recently.

The fairways are huge, and it's not hard to think that anyone having a half decent round here will score well (I didn't). There's not really a lot of protection in the way of water or bunkers on a lot of the holes, although there are 3 or 4 long par 4's.

There's not a lot of holes that live long in the memory, but it's enjoyable enough and good value for the green fee.
